What do you recommend to remove polyurethane spills from prefinished hardwood?

Some polyurethane can be the dickens to get to soften up. After polyurethane cures it's actually a sheet of plastic. I recommend Citristrip Stripper it's real user friendly and safe to use inside. As with all chemicals, be sure you have good ventilation though. Citristrip has a long open time and if conditions are right it'll work for up to 24 hours. I would suggest applying a coat of stripper and letting it sit for a few hours, then apply another coat of stripper over the first one and cover the area with a plastic drop cloth. Let it sit overnight and try scraping. If the stripper has dried apply another coat and wait an hour and try it. Usually that will do the trick.

What size room is 749 square feet?

There is no way to compute the room dimensions from square footage alone. A room shaped like a rectangle and one shaped like a circle could have the same square footage, but different meaurements. You would have to know the shape of the room, and the length of at least one wall (maybe more, depending on the shape).

For example, a room measuring 749 square feet could have dimensions of:

a. A square measuring 27.38 on all four sides;

b. A rectangle measuring 10 ft wide by 74.9 feet long;

c. A rectangle measuring 100 feet wide by 7.49 feet long;

d. An L-shaped room in which one section is 20 feet by 20 feet, and the second section is 20 feet by 17.45 feet;

e. A circle-shaped room measuring 30.88 feet across;

... or a million other possibilities.

What will it cost to carpet a room with indoor or outdoor carpet if the room is 10 feet wide and 12 feet long?

The area of the floor is (10 x 12) = 120 square feet = (13 and 1/3) square yards.

You'll probably have to buy 14 square yards.

The total cost will depend on the cost per square yard of the carpet you select.

Also, don't forget to add the pad and installation costs.

What is the square foot price for installed mirrors?

It is 2013 and I have worked for three companies in the past four years, one in Chicago and two in Florida. The price average to install new mirror is $11 on the low end and $14 average. Adding a cutout for a light or an outlet is an additional $25 per hole.

How do you remove candle soot off Berber carpet?

The best & safest thing you can do is Contact the manufacturer & ask for their recommendations.

The kind of yarn & the way it was dyed will all impact how to clean it properly.

If you use the wrong thing you could damage the carpet or void your warranty or set the stain so that it would never come out.

If you don't know who made the carpet, the next best thing would be to call a pro to come & remove it. If the budget wont stand that, try an off the shelf carpet cleaning product called RESOLVE, you can get it at any hardware or grocery store.

Be sure to rinse the carpet with clear water after you are done with the resolve & read the instructions.

What is the effect of aging of ceramic tile?

Ceramic is one of the most ancient of human technologies so it is a very mature and basic technology.

Some think it was probably a matter of some of our ancestors noticing that the mud under the firepit, after long continuous use was hard, maintained its shape and could be used pretty effictvly to kill poor old Og in the next tribe or that pesky Mastadon.

The the women folks being far more civil & artistic started shaping the clay into bowls & cups & setting them in the fire to get the same effect of hardening, (To this day we call baking ceramics & porcelain; FIRING) creating the first tableservice for eight!

The only thing that terrorizes ceramic is grit and a poor foundation.

Put tile on a concreted sub floor & it will last forever, put it on a basic new home wooden sub floor & it will be cracking, popping loose & busting its grout apart in a few heat & cool season cycles.

If the perimeter of a room is 32 ft how much sq ft of carpet do i need to cover the floor?

what are the dimensions of the room? Is it square?

Assuming it's square, 32ft perimeter means 8 foot walls. 8 foot walls means 64 square feet of flooring.

Assuming it's a rectangle with the long wall of 10 feet and the short wall of 6 feet, then it's 60 square feet of flooring.

How can you calculate the coverage for epoxy coatings or flooring?

Calculating the coverage for an epoxy coating is simple: There are two measurements that you have to take into consideration:

  1. The area that you'll be covering.
  2. The volume (amount) of liquid epoxy you have or that you'll need to cover to the given area at the desired thickness.

In the U.S., the thickness of an epoxy coating is usually measured in mils (one mil is 1 one-thousandth of an inch; 250 mils is a quarter of an inch). A simple but helpful calculation that enters into the equation is this:

  • One U.S. gallon of any liquid (epoxy in this case), when applied at an even thickness of one mil, will cover 1,604 square feet.

So, 1,604 S.F. becomes your control number. If you apply the epoxy coating at a rate of 200 S.F. per gallon then by dividing 1,604 by 200 you'll know that you've applied the epoxy at a thickness of 8 wet mils. If the epoxy is a 100% solids material then once the coating has cured, you'll also have a drythickness of 8 mils. If the epoxy has a solids content of less than 100%, then you simply multiply the wet mil thickness by the solids content you'll know the final dry mil thickness.

Because many different types of epoxy coatings and formulations exist, you should always consult and follow the manufacture's guidelines for the proper coverage rates in order to achieve the best results.

How do you remove linseed oil from hardwood floor Left a sticky layer?

Hi Had the same problem. I tried the following. Mixed linseed oil and turpentine 50:50. Then painted on liberally, waited 15 minutes, scrubbed with steel wool and then wiped off with a cloth. Result: better, but not solved. Tomorrow I will try just using turpentine - although I am concerned that this might remove some of the protective oil from the wood.

How do you remove eggshell paint from a wooden floor?

I'm taking a guess that it is Latex Paint. The best and fastest way would be to use a Paint Scraper. Stripper would work but it would take the Final Finish off of your floor. If it is a large area, you could use a Heat Gun...carefully as that also would take the Clear protecting coat off of the floor. I would go with the paint scraper. Not a Putty Knife, a Paint Scraper.

Will muriatic acid etch ceramic tile?

How can you stain and polyurethane floors in on step?

i'm going with minwax polyshades. cabot also makes a stain & polyurethane in one application. i noticed there are 3 questions about how to mix stain & polyurethane on this site. all 3 are unanswered. i was researching the topic & i've seen reference to a polyurethane stain kit. can't find out what a polyurethane stain kit is. my tenant left behind an opened can of minwax polyshades. i tried some of it out & i think it looks fine. i sanded some of the scratches & paint stains out, put on a coat of natural wood stain & i'm using the polyshades as an overcoat. there are still some scratches but it looks a lot better than it did before. the polyshades should help mask some of the scratches & give it a more even tone. bottom line - it's really difficult to find information on how to mix stain & polyurethane so the minwax & cabot all in one products look good to me. i wish they came in sizes larger than a quart, but easier to go pick that product up than to continue looking for information that indicates what a polyurethane stain kit is & how to use it.

How much does it cost to carpet a room?

If you are not terribly picky, a carpet remnant store is your best bet. It typically costs only about $150 or so to carpet a room up to about 12' by 16' or so. You still need a pad and generally need professional installation so the full price would be roughly near $300.

If you have already purchased your new carpet and are simply looking for installation costs, plan on spending approximately $5 to $10 per square yard. More details on prices on getproquotes.com
