Food Chains and Food Webs

In oceans, as on land, there is a natural interconnection of creatures that forms a kind of food chain. Diatoms are microscopic plants that make their own food from sunlight. Zooplankton are tiny sea animals, such as krill, copepods, medusa jellyfish, and crab larvae. Small fish might include mackerel, herring, and basking sharks, as well as crustaceans (crab, shrimp, lobster), mollusks (clams, scallops) and squid. Large fish might include swordfish, tuna, octopus, and shark. Killer whales eat other whales and seals, as well as fish. === === === === === ===

Food evaluation is when food is looked at thoroughly. It is then determined how healthy or unhealthy it is. Carbohydrates, fats and sugars are also looked at.

The rabbit's population will increase, red fox's population will decrease. Animals that red fox eats (2nd trophic level) will also increase. 1st trophic level will decrease becausse there are more herivores ( 2nd trophic level ). More food for species that eat herbivores.

The about of energy passed to the next level is 10%. If the first level uses sunlight, it will use 90% for growth and reproduction. That means that 10% can be passed on. The second level also needs to grow and reproduce. So it will use 90% of that 10% leaving only 10% of 10% to pass to the third level. This is why there is usually only 3 levels in an ecosystem. The numbers of organisms reflect this. The numbers become fewer and fewer.

Platypuses, especially small ones, can be eaten by a variety of predators including spotted-tailed quoll, dingo, feral cat, goannas, water rats, owls and pythons. The platypus is midway in the food chain. Whilst there are other animals that prey upon this creature the platypus, in turn, is carnivorous and preys on small crustaceans, larvae and fish that live underwater.

Within its niche in creeks and rivers, the platypus is the top predator; below it are the shrimp and small crustaceans upon which it feeds; they, in turn, feed on zooplankton, which feed on phytoplankton.

i would be how they get there energy starting from the sun then going to plant to insects to small animals to bigger animals then to boa's. so they eat small animals and bigger animals.

And just so you know they are considered a top predators so they eat a lot of animals and not much eat them.
