Ford Excursion

Well...I have a 2002 Excursion and hopefully its at or near the same place. It took forever for me to find. I found it behind the heater/radio dash panel. It was clipped to the metal braket to the left, once you have the panel off, about the same height as the heater controls. Hope this helps.

Beneath the emergency break under the dash. It's housed in a black casing, which is secured with two 7mm bolts.

The Excursion is built on an F350 platform; however, with the added weight of the sheet metal it is rated as a 3/4 ton.

Before you do a swap like this check your specs on the front end of your excursion with a true FORD HD truck shop mechanic. You will be pleasantly surprised to find out its true capacity is and what Ford used in the factory build. Sure you can swap any banjo if you have the time and money...and ability! My Excursion with the v10 has a HD rating on par with your needs of a 350, and can pull down a house and uproot an oak tree. I researched what platform Ford used and was amazed that its a true Heavy Duty Truck converted to haul a bunch of people while towing a houseboat! Think about suspension mods to the chassis like a lift kit with dual HD shock absorbers for more ground clearance, and bigger tires with HD rating's so weight is not an issue. The costs will be similar in the end if you di it yourself and you will have a cool looking truck to boot!

The Excursion has 6 speakers total and they are each 6x8's. Hope that helps.

On a Ford Excursion ( if it has a gasoline engine )

( the 5.4 liter V8 engine has 8 spark plugs )

( the 6.8 liter V10 engine has 10 spark plugs )

depends on how you drive them and take care of them. you should be able to get 500,000 miles fairly easily

If you happen to buy a gas Excursion, it doesn't matter which kind of gas you get, you can even get the lowest grade there. However, if you get the DIESEL FUEL ONLY Excursion, you gotta put the diesel in, but you can use BIO-DIESEL FUEL

You will need a set of a/c gauges, a vacuum pump, freon and oil....... Put the gauges on both the low and high side ports (blue goes to the low side and red goes to the high side and yellow will go to the vacuum pump).... Vacuum the system down for about 1 hour and then let it sit for 1 hour to see if it will at least hold a vacuum and if so then vacuum it out for an additional 1 hour and then recharge it. Add your freon and oil at a slow pace and watch the gauge readings. Depending the outside temperature you will what the high side to be between 200 to 250psi and the low side to be between 30 to 40psi.

First guess would be a bad switch.

you can't replace just the bulb itself. you have to replace the whole bulb and lens assembly and you have to get them from the dealership. they are somewhat expensive but there is no other solution that i know of.

It is located on the passenger side behind the glove box. It has the relay that goes to the inertia switch (emergency fuel cut off switch).

just pull the knob that turns on the headlamps toward you and the fog lights come on, at least that's how they work on my '04 exc.

There really isn't one anymore. The instrument in the dash is just a stepper motor, which gets a signal from the PCM. You will need an adapter from a tach manufacturer to hook up any kind of aftermarket gauge.

The spark plug firing order is ( 1 - 6 - 5 - 10 - 2 - 7 - 3 - 8 - 4 - 9 )

It has the Coil On Plug ( C.O.P. ) ignition system with ( 10 ) individual coils

If you are talking about the back-light in the stereo, you can replace it, but this is not very effective as that you have to remove the unit and take it apart, your best bet is to buy an after market stereo and install it yourself (you still have to remove the old unit plus install the new one but w/o the hassle of taking anything electronic in nature apart). You can get nice after markets for under 100 and the wire harness, and dash kits usual run around $20 combined. Installation usually takes an hour plus time for wiring and kit setup. Time and money wise to install an after market vs. repairing the stock stereo it is easier to just replace the unit. To have the original repaired costs an average of $150-$350 depending on the repair and a replacement itself usually runs around $200 from a junkyard (more from the dealer itself). Hope this helped
