Is dyslexia genetically related?
Absolutely! If you have a close family member who has dyslexia, you are much more likely to have it yourself. Both my father and my mother's father have dyslexia, therefore it is not such a surprise that I do. Also, if you have people who are left-handed in your family, that has been proven to increase your likelihood of having dyslexia.
How can genetic engineering help to solve food crisis?
By providing food crops that have greater yield and can exist in a range of conditions. or By creating a food supply for all people
What is the definition of genetic distance?
The "distance" or similarity between the allelic frequency of two separate populations. *Usually the two populations are separated over a significant geographic distance.
The process which gametes from two parents combine to from one new cell?
In sexual reproduction, genetic material from two separate organisms is combined in the offspring. The other alternative is asexual reproduction, in which the genetic material for the offspring comes from just one parent.
Is genetic engineering a good thing or a bad thing?
It could be argued that genetic research is neither good nor bad, it is the application of the research that may be good or bad. For example, a rich dictator creating a clone of himself - bad thing, a cure for Parkinson's disease - good thing.
Can bacteria undergo recombination?
Generally speaking, no. Bacteria reproduce asexually, via a process known as binary fission, in which two identical daughter cells results from the splitting of a parent cell.
However, bacteria do have ways of modifying their DNA through various methods.
See link below.
Applied genetics is the process of using gene theories to attempt to actually produce a genetic product.
An example of this would be genetically engineered seeds.
What does the genetic code specify the correlation between?
The genetic code refers to the nucleotide triplets of DNA and RNA molecules that carry genetic information. It specifies the correlation between an RNA-nucleotide sequence, as well as an amino-acid sequence.
Genetic information that is found in a cell is called what?
I suppose it's really just called DNA, but in some singe-celled organisms, it's just simply DNA. The DNA is found in the nucleus of a cell.
The genetic material of an animal cell is found in the?
DNA is the genetic material. It is in chromosomes in nucleus.
Genes on DNA make proteins by transcription and translation.
Different alleles mean different proteins which consequently stand for different phenotypes.
It is explicit in the case of one's blood type since proteins like antigen A or antigen B directly lead to different phenotypes.
In some cases of shapes, DNA information expression may be implicit. For example. a deficient enzyme coded by recessive alleles fails to turn sugars into starch for storage in a seed. Therefore, the seed swells with plenty of water flowing in(osmosis). When it gets dried, it turns wrinkled. On the other hand, the dominant alleles express a round shape due to the normal enzyme that remains the content full of starch rather than water.
What are features of genetic material?
This question is vague. DNA and RNA, nucleic acids, make up the genetic material of living organisms. The nucleotides, building blocks that make up nucleic acids are Cytosine, guanine, adenine,Cytosine, guanine, adenine, thymine thymine, and uracil. See the link for more info.
What are the branches of biotechnology?
The branches of biotechnology are: Red biotechnology-that is used for medical processes, like finding genetic cures by going through genomic manipulations and creating organisms to produce antibiotics.
Green biotechnology- that is used in reference to agricultural processes that use biotechnology. Eg. The development of transgenic plants, need for pesticides remove etc.
White biotechnology- This kind of biotechnology is used to reduce the costs for producing industrial goods that occur when traditional processes are used.
Blue biotechnology- that deals with marine and aquatic usages of biotechnology,
What part of a cells nucleus carries genetic material?
The genes, which are found in the nucleus, carries the hereditary characteristics of an individual. The genes are subsets of a cell's DNA.
Why would you want genetically altered crops?
For a variety of reasons.
Crops are bred for a greater yield per acre, larger fruit or vegetable size, more resistance to extremes of cold or heat, more resistance to insects, immunities to disease, etc.
These make better and more food for everyone. It allows us to maintain over 6 billion humans, where without such alterations and other agro-technologies, we'd scarce be able to feed 2 billion.
Look at the next 6 people you pass by. Know that four of them would not exist were it not for advances in farming - including genetic alterations.
(Note: Genetically altering also includes simply "selection", and has been done for several thousand years.)
What are three ways in which food crops have been improved through genetic engineering?
Yes, they do. A leading company in this area is Monsanto. Though it used to be that patents were not allowed for seeds and crops, the government now allows them and Monsanto patents their genetically modified brands of not only corn, but other crops.
How are gene of interest identified and cloned?
The expression of a gene of interest can be ensured by combining it with a gene recessive to it.
Does everyone in the world have a lookalike?
No everyone in the world does not have a look alike. Everybody has their own genetic code giving them their own look.
What is the origin of genetic variation?
They have extremely short generation times and large populations.
They can exchange DNA with many types of prokaryotes by way of horizontal gene transfer
Red-green colorblindness and hemophilia are two human genetic disorders that are caused by?
X-Linked Inheritance
The genetic structures located within the nucelous of each cell are known as?
The genetic structures located within the nucleolus of each cell are known as chromosomes. These structures are made up of the DNA molecules containing the body's genes.
Why there are sticky and blunt end produced in DNA?
sticky ends are more specific and easier to ligate
What genetic disorder results when two mutated alleles are inherited?
Hemophilia is one.. it's where a person has a mutation in one of the genes responsible for blood clotting. It means the blood doesn't clot and the person could bleed to death.
Down Syndrome - is when a person has an excess of Chromosome 21
