Where is the distributor on a 1996 Tracker?
Hi, Your distributor is at the rear of the engine, a little right of center. I must warn you
that it is not easy to remove. The best way to remove it is to first mark each wire where it came from, just make a small diagram. You need a short socket and a flexible extension or a short Philips Head screwdriver. If you're not changing the cap and rotor then I hope the location helps. Steve H.

Likely it's a 16 valve. When the Tracker first came out it was 8 valve, but sometime in the early 90s it went up to 16.
Where can you find decals for Geo Tracker to replace mine after you paint it?
I have this situation as well, so I called the local Chevrolet dealership
( Thoroughbred Chevrolet ) in Chandler, AZ, and found that they had some of the color combos
( lettering plus contrasting dropshade on the lettering )
in stock that reads 'TRACKER' @ $70.00 ea. ( That's $140.00 for two 18.75 in decals! )
I passed on that price, but you may be insterested.
WHAT IS THE FLUID CAPACITY ON THE AUTOMATIC transmission FOR A 1994 geo tracker 4 X 4?
Hi, The total capacity is 10.8 pints and that is if you do a complete overhaul and there is no fluid left in at all. The amount is 5.9 pints if you have removed the transmission pan and replaced the filter and drained the fluid. I hope this was timely for you and hope it helps. Happy new year and good luck Steve H.

How do you fix a cracked head or blown head gasket on a 96 Geo Tracker?
Replace it , meaning the cracked head or the gasket . Neither can be repaired . The head can be repaired if its only warped from overheating by having it surfaced . It is best on the 8 valve or the 16 valve engines to replace with new parts.
What is the best fuel treatment for a Geo 97?
Techron to clean fuel injectors, spark plugs etc.
If you're trying to improve gas mileage, use gas with no ethanol.
Also, you can add 2 fl. oz of pure acetone per 10 gallons (they have it at Walmart for $1). It increased the overall gas mileage in my 1996 1.3 metro automatic about 4%.
If I use 10% ethanol fuel however, acetone has no effect, and my gas mileage drops from 42 to 37 mpg (with or without acetone added).
How do you change a clutch in a Geo Tracker?
I dont know about changing the clutch, but I can tell you that they are adjustable! I just had mine adjusted!
I pulled the engine, had no vehicle hoist so lifted the engine out. Worked real well as all the clutch parts are in front of you while engine is in the air; except throughout bearing.
It is much easier to remove the transfer case and tranmission, rather than removing the engine. Here is the procedure:
Disconnect battery ground cable. Remove shift control lever Remove console box, then console box bracket. Push gear shift control case cover down with fingers, then turn it clockwise, and remove shift control lever, Remove shift control lever following the same procedure. Remove transfer case shift control knob. Remove breather hose from attaching clamp at the rear of the engine cylinder head. Remove wiring harness clamp from the rear of intake manifold, then disconnect wiring harness connector. Remove starter, then engine to transmission retaining bolts. Drain oil from transmission and transfer case if front propeller shaft is to be removed or transmission serviced. Remove flange bolts from rear propeller shaft universal joint, then pull out rear propeller shaft. Remove flange bolts from front propeller shaft universal joint, then remove front propeller shaft. Remove clutch cable from clutch cable mechanism, then clutch housing lower plate. Remove center exhaust pipe assembly, then remove speedometer cable from transfer case. Place a suitable transmission jack under the transmission, then remove rear engine crossmember, Remove transmission/ transfer case assembly. Then remove transmission wiring harness and breather hose if necessary. Reverse procedure to install. Tighten universal joint flange bolts to specifications. Tighten transmission to engine attaching bolts to specifications.
Can you drive a '95 GEO Tracker with manual hubs in 2WD with the hubs locked without doing damage?
Yes. That si a way to have 4x4 available without having to get out of the car. The only catch is that you will have lower gas mileage since you are pushing the extra drive train , i.e. front wheels drive components. Even if the tires spin freely. Hi, I have a '97 w/manual hubs and my owner's manual tells me to never drive with the hubs locked in 2wd as it could cause damage so I wouldn't. I lock the hubs shift into 4hi once a month and drive about a mile and then shift back and unlock the hubs, I think it's to make sure the hubs sstay free moving and working. Hope this helps. Steve H. You will possibly do damage to the drivetrain, and at the very least you will wear a set of tires out very quickly.
What years are compatible with a 1997 Geo Tracker?
The wheel bolt pattern is the same from 1993 to 1998 but 1999 and up may not fit. Rear brakes can be small for two door models and much larger for 4 doors also the rear drums are larger and hard to find in Canada. There are so many models in each year that you might have a hard time matching things. There are two different engines, 4 types of transmission, two wheel drive and 4X4. and lots of rust. Even the frame can crack near the rear wheels. Sorry I have only had two models and am a mechanic but not enough experience to tell you more. Eldon, Bathurst, NB ,Canada March 28/2011
It is possible the rubber lines at the calipers are collapsing causing a suction which will not allow the brakes to release. might want to check that.
Had same issue replaced lines and calipers wheel bearing and found it to be an abs issue the pressure is not releasing
Speedometer do not work on geo traker 1995?
HI, It could be a few things, the cable might have broken, the cable might have become disconnected at the speedometer, the cable might have become disconnected at the transmission, the speedometer might have become faulty or the back of the speedometer where the cable connects th it might have broken, if that happens then you need a new speedometer, it's cheaper and easirer to gat a replacement instrument cluster than look for just a speedometer. . The first is to check the cable at both ends and if that is ok then you just might need to look for an instrument cluster. It was my problem also and I had both things wrong, the cable was bad and my speedo was bad. I replaced the cable first then the instrument cluster. I bought the cable from a Chevy dealer and the instrument cluster on EBay and had no problems with it at all. Sometimes you can get a part from a Chevy dealer and if they don't have the part you can check with a Suzuki dealer, and then ther's EBay. I hope this helps you, good luck. Steve H.
Where exactly is the check engine reset located under the steering wheel of a 1994 Geo Tracker?
Hi, Acording to the book I have, if you have a reset switch, it should be mounted under the left-hand side of the instrument panel. The way the picture looks, it should be right near the steering wheel. Yiu need to remove the panel under the steering wheel to get at it easily, that should be just a few screws. Good luck. Steve H.
How do you remove steering wheel on a 96 Geo Tracker?
First, you take apart the entire engine. Be sure to keep your hands clean and parts scattered in this process. Secondly, the only tool you need to take apart this engine will be a chainsaw. Don't let Home Depot or Lowe's tell you, you need tools for that. They're liars. Thirdly, you take the wheels off of the tractor and gently set them aside. Once you have that done, you can attempt to pull off the steering wheel. Get a good grip on it and pull hard. Last, what is a 96 Geo tractor?
i have 1995 4x4 geo tracker with a bad auto transmission will a auto transmission out 1998 4x4 geo tracker fit in 1995
Where is the voltage regulator on a 1995 tracker?
HI, All of my info and my garage tell me that the voltage regulator is part of the alternator. That's also what I found when I replaced the alternator on my '97. I hope this solves your dillema and yours is running soon. Steve H.
I used to know a guy who flat towed one of those round trip coast to coast twice a year behind his motorhome for nearly a decade. The only modifications were for electrical connection for lights and for the tow bar.
