Maximum speed of a greyhound is 153 miles per hour less than 3 times the maximum speed of a cheetah if a greyhound's maximum speed is 42 miles per hour what is the maximum speed of a cheetah?

This is a simple question in algebra. Call the max speed of cheetah "x". Then the equation can be written:

3x -153 = 42 . That is, 3 times cheetah speed minus 153 = greyhound speed.

So, adding 153 to both sides, 3x=42 + 153, or 3x=195.

Dividing both sides by 3, we get x=65.

THIS ANSWER IS WRONG!

How many races are there?

There is just 1 race : the Human Race !

Thank you for the above answer which was meant to be taken tongue-in-cheek.

There are only four main races in the world but several sub races and mixed races;

Caucascoid, Negroid, Mongoloid and Austroloid.

Two of them are labeled by their skin color and its culturally acceptable throughout the world as in, The Whites or The Blacks. The other nationalities find it highly offensive, culturally unaceptable and some may say vulgar to address someone as a red skin, yellow, skin, or brown skin. Describing skin color is appropriate in an educational atmosphere such as this one.

Racial slurs have also been around for thousands of years and is also considered in most cultures as highly offensive, fecesious and yes vulgar. The White race however have tended not be offended so much by their racial slurs. Many actually use the terms in a humorous sense such as honky, cracker, white trash, etc.

Why do greyhounds wear wide collars?

Greyhounds (and other sighthounds) have very long, slender necks, so wearing a thin collar has more of a chance to damage the skin or cause neck injuries. Wider collars have more surface area, which reduces the chance of harming the dog.

Who makes Greyhound engines?

Pretty much all manufacturers have been used in various buses at some point. Greyhound does not manufacture their own buses. On the Greyhound website, they list four buses which make up the bulk of their fleet:

  • MCI D4505: The current model year models use either a Cummins ISX12 or Cummins ISX9 engine. Greyhound most likely uses the ISX12.
  • Prevost X3-45: The current model year uses a Volvo D13 engine.
  • MCI G4500: This platform was manufactured from 2000 - 2005. Initially, it used a Detroit Diesel 12.7 liter 60 series engine. I'm not sure what they used after ACERT regulations went into effect, but the Mercedes-Benz 12.8 liter MBE4000 is a likely possibility.
  • MCI 102DL3 (known as the MCI D4500 from 2000 onwards): These had either a 12.7 liter Detroit Diesel 60 series engine or a 12 liter Caterpillar C12, but this would be from 2000 onwards. When first introduced, the 102DL3 used the two stroke V-configuration Detroits - 6V92, 8V72, or 8V92.

These are the buses listed as the mainstay of the Greyhound fleet, and doesn't include every single model in use by them.

What does it mean when a greyhound bumped escape?

For each race a greyhound is given a comment in the Official Race chart giving a brief description of how it ran it's race. Some are more generalized than others, but, to answer the question, this comment is stating where the racer had some trouble in its race.

The "escape turn" is the 2nd turn on the oval that when running counter clockwise has the dogs running on the backstretch of the track. Sometimes there's some body contact and it can throw a racer off it's balance.

In a race decided in around 30 seconds and with participants running in excess of 45 mph at some points, any jostling can slow a dog down significantly and have an adverse effect on it's success.
