1) You could of slept the wrong way and your neck pain is causing you a headache.

2) A migraine. Do feel like you're going to puke? Loss of sight? Loud sound making your head pound? Flashing lights? If so, you have one. Go take some medicine that helps headaches, lay in a dark room, take a hot shower, turn off the noise or whatever you think would make you feel more comfortable... and if its still bad after a few days id suggest a doctor. Ask him/her about if there is something he can suggest.

3) Stress. Stress can cause multiple things, everyone is different though. Do something relaxing or enjoyable. RELAX. HAVE FUN. Do let stress hurt you. Literally.

I was using Xanax exclusively for flying. On my last trip to China I took a pill and the next day developed a severe ice pick headache on the left side of my temple shooting towards the ear. This lasted for 4 months. I did not make an association with Xanax at the time. I thought that the headache was a result of being in the high altitude in Tibet for 2 weeks as we ascended to the Everest base camp. When got back to the US, consulted my neurologist 2 times as the ice pick throbbing would not go away. He said no worries, had an MRI, all normal.

Recently my mother was visiting, I gave her Xanax for the flight back, she slept like a baby for 12 hours only to wake up to an ice pick headache on the left side of her temple, just like mine. It has been a week now that she has suffered this horrific headache.

In the meantime, to cope with my headaches I totally stopped drinking any caffeinated beverages and started drinking a gallon of lemon water to get rid of the toxins. My headaches are gone, but it took 4 months after the last Xanax to get rid of them.

Since I stopped any caffeine intake, my panic attacks are completely gone as well. I sleep better and I have lost a significant amount of weight due to stopping of the blood sugar fluctuations that coffee produces. Stopping my tea rituals in the morning was the hardest thing I have ever done, much harder psychologically than physically. My advise: Dear Friends quit Xanax and coffee see if you can heal your ice pick headaches

For young children, sometimes it is. Headaches can cause bad nausea, (I got headaches and would eventually puke).
