Heating AC and Engine Cooling

One possibility is that the engine is running too rich. When you shut the engine off with no spark present the excess fuel present from the last couple cycles is flooding the engine. This would dissipate after time. Try the idling screw first ajust until the engine is about to cut out and then turn it about 1 turn back and see how it runs.You could also adjust the Pilot screw a tinybit toward the leaner side also. If this doesnt help then the float could be slightly sticking. Of course it could be some kind of screwy grounding problem. Hope this helps.

Assuming you mean a house AC unit. Check the thermostat. Make sure you are getting 24 Volts at the outside unit (small wire) when the AC should be running. If you're getting thermostat voltage to the compressor, then you'll need to find out why it won't work. Don't assume the worst until you've checked out the easy fixes. you probably had a leak and lost enough refrigerant that the compresser wont engage, there is an electrical plug in on the drier that makes contact to the compresser when you turn the a/c on, dis connect it and take a hair pen and jump accross the female end on the wire if the compreeser starts you are low of refrigerant if it doest start you have a bad compresser or clutch, if it starts, only a certified tech. can refill the refrigerant. Since you have checked the breakers, may be you should check the fuses in the disconnect. if there ok you need to check the windings in the motor with an meter to see if you have an open winding or a grounded winding. It could also be your capacitor for the compressor.

If computer reads [large] emissions leak? check to see if gas cap is on all the way or missing may 2004 Chevy cavalier had this code and gas cap was missing replaced and reset computer and light or code never came back hope this helps.

perhaps the valve that opens and closes the passage for the antifreeze to go in to the core is stuck and not opening all the way preventing free flow of antifreeze thru the heater core.

Air conditioner will sometimes freeze up when the thermostat is not cutting off and allowing the coil to ice up or you can have the thermostat turned down too low and the unit does not have emough air flow to keep it from freezing up. == New answer== It could also be that your system is low on refrigerant. If that is the case you probably have a leak in your system and need to have it checked. A dirty filter could be the culprit, check to see if it is clean.

Find the low pressure sensor, it should be near the receiver/dryer if you have one. Pull the connector to the sensor and see if there are connections for two pins. If so, turn on the compressor and briefly jumper the two wires. If the compressor turns on, you either have a bad sensor or low refrigerant. If that isn't the problem, you may have a bad relay, clutch, switch or who knows what without checking it further.

refrigerant 135a is the the standard freon used and sold at most auto parts/retail stores. You can even do it yourself.

First check your radiator hoses, then look a the possibility of a bad water pump. You may have warped the engine head and/or blown a head gasket when you ran the engine hot. Pray for the radiator hoses being your only problem.

Fan cooling sensor is located on the left sie of the motor block down by oil filter. Has two wire going to it can jump out wires to see if fan comes , if does fan control switch (sensor) is bad. Also try taking 12 volts from battery directly to fan to make sure fan motor is ok.

Freon in the AC system heats up very hot before it is sent through the condenser. The condenser is like a radiator, and is located right in front of the radiator of your car. As air passes through the condenser & the radiator , the hotter the condenser, the hotter the radiator will be. correct answer the temp goes up when using a/c as the motor is running at a higher speed to drive th a/c , therefore when idling the fan is not pulling anuff air over engine. a thrmatic fan will help with this

A/C comps. rarely go bad. However, when the A/C is on and you're sure the pump is turning, (look at the pump and be sure the center where the belt goes around it is spinning too) if it's making a grinding noise or freezes up it's bad.

Next time it stops blowing cold air, leave the engine running, AC on, and open the hood. Check the AC lines under the hood. If you see a lot of frost buildup on the AC lines, there's a good chance you also have frost buildup on the evaporator inside the air-handler. It's called "icing-up", and it's generally caused by someone over-charging the refrigerant (over pressure). When you build up too much ice, the air can't blow past. You could need a charge & too much air in the system Have it done right just dont through in a can.Vacuum down the system check for leaks.add what your car/truck call for don't mix them up 134a or 12 one or the other. The other problem could be your compressor clutches or bearings are ready to go listen for metal to metal noise.But you are most likely just low on 134 or 12 the compressor will cut off if too much is in there too. so if you just put a can in let some out and check it with a gauge. It is always better to roll down the windows. One thing is it will let the hot air out very quickly and thus allow the inside to cool quickly. Also when heated up the car dashboard and the airfreshners produce toxic benzene, which if inhaled can cause serious health hazards. So keeping the windows will let the toxic gas out and it will be much safer.

I don't know whether this is good for the car or not, but I always do this. I believe it makes the car cool much faster. Even if it's 90 degrees outside, it may be over 100 degrees in the car, and the hotter air will want to move out. Also the AC's fan will help to cool the car. I often leave the door open until the AC starts putting out cool air.

I would say that it would be a good thing, the reason being that in hot weather the heat outside and the extreme cool air on the inside of the car could cause a window to implode or at least break due to the change of air pressure in the car, so cracking the window open will allow the cool air to push the heated air out of the crack in the window instead of building pressure.

Temperatures in a car will not cause a window to break!!! It will not harm the car. Yes it is quicker to cool off the interior of the car because the hot air has a place to escape while the cool air is trying to cool down the inside. If your extra fan(s) on the engine are working it does pull more air across the radiator to help compensate for the extra work the engine is doing for the ac. I personally found my cars engine overheating when I turned on the ac one summer, but it was only because the extra fan was not working. In this case it was only a blown fuse. After replacing the fuse it worked great!! Air conditioning is also a dehumidifier if you find steamy windows, try the ac and it should help. Cars will steam up too if you have the fresh air vent shut too long.

It's not a question of good or bad as neither really applies. It's a question of efficiency and comfort. The air conditioning system in any modern vehicle is designed to work in conjunction (and hopefully, harmony) with other basic systems found in/on the vehicle. When attempting to cool off the interior of a car that has been sitting in the heat for a while, just do the following. 1. Roll down a window or two or leave a door open before starting the car. 2. Allow the engine to run for a minute or two before turning on the air conditioning. 3. Make sure the �system� is set in the �fresh air vent� position instead of the �recirculation� position. 4. Once you feel the air from the vents start to cool, roll up all of the windows except the driver�s window. (If you have power windows, obviously you will have more control over this situation, but I don�t want someone with manual roll-up windows reaching across the vehicle to roll up the passenger side window while driving.) 5. Drive the car until you can feel the interior start to cool. 6. At this point, move the selector from �fresh air vent� to �recirculation,� and roll up the (remaining open) window.

NOTE: Most cars air conditioning systems will benefit from being �drafted.� (having one window open about 1/8 of an inch. This also increases defroster efficiency.)

Windows in automobiles do not implode or explode from changes in temperature. Other factors would have to be involved.

ANSWER windows can break from temperature changes generally they wont when cooling car with a/c crack a window about 1/2 an inch when u first start. switch a/c on and let it do its thing when car has cooled from a/c close window if car is sitting in sun and u set to fresh air, all you are doing is bring in hot air from outside. if you want to cool it use your a/c that is what is for

The owners manual for my dodge truck suggests that you should open the window when you start your vehicle to let out excess heat. When the interior temp is close to the outside temp and the air conditioner is blowing cool air, then close the windows. Some vehicles like mine, don't have a recirculation switch, it's automatic. This is to allow the fan to draw cooler air from the floor area to be recirculated through the air conditioning to further cool it. Without the recirculation on, the fan will draw hot outside air into the air conditioning and it won't cool very much. Opening a window when the air conditioning is on will only draw out the cooled air from inside. This effect also happens when the recirculation switch is not turned on and the cooled air is drawn out through the hidden vents that all cars have. For those vehicles with a recirculation switch, it should come on automatically when the air conditioning is turned on or you have to do it yourself. Most air conditioners i have seen, blow through the interior vents and not on the windshield (which would only heat the air from the glass), so windows breaking is unlikely.

NOTE: I have seen a windshield shatter in the winter, when the heater was turned on only after the engine was warmed up. The extreme difference in temperature (- 20 outside vs +70 from the heater) and scratches from a diamond ring from someone wiping the fog from the windshield was the cause.

If you don't know your way around a refrigerant system get a mechanic to charge it for you. The pressures and temperatures in an operating HVAC system aren't trivial and should not be worked on by inexperienced personnel.

All car ac's work like most any other ac. I don't know of any car ac's that work like heat pumps that both heat and cool. Every car I have seen provides heat thru a heating core which is heated from the water circulated from the engine. , EzForJesus

Low Freon - Your AC system has a leak .The low pressure switch is working.

Chances are you placed the thermostat in backwards or there isn't enough coolant in the system to circulate thru the engine. You may have a bad water pump. But first check your temp sending unit. If your temp gauge doesnt go up at all, thent hats the problem, its your temp sending sensor, replace it answer check radiator cap, u may need a new one have been known to buy a bad thermostat when it was new check water pump with engine running above idle, and at running temp. remove radiator cap and look in radiator if water is moving, your pump is good so is thermostat if no movement is thermostat or pump u might also chck to see if air is trapped in cooling system, a lot of new vehicles need system to be bled of air after doing a repair HINT if you have a coolant overflow tank, most vehicles need coolant to be added thru this tank and not thru radiator, this being done to stop overfilling of radiator and excess air from getting in system

Stop leak will generally plug up holes u want plugged, but they will also plug up holes u don't want plugged. Better to fix the heater core.

There are many reasons that the cars heating system may alternate between blowing hot and cold air. Some common causes of this include the heater core and air pockets in the coolant.

Open the radiator cap, rev the engine and at the same time check to see if the radiator is flowing. if so, thermostat is probably stuck open. I'm having the same problem. I boiled the thermostat and it worked as it should at the proper temps. Could the water pump impeller be loose from the shaft? My car doesn't run hot, but I just bought it and have only ran the engine at temps below freezing. Could an air intake door to the heater be stuck open? Thanks.
