How do you change oil on Honda rincon?

(note: Left and right are denoted by sitting on the quad)

Warm up the engine. Turn off the engine. Pull the left lower side cover ((the small one in the corner) That's the oil fill hole. remove the cap. the oil drain plug is about 1/2 way back under the quad. It's 17 MM if I recall correctly. there is a hole in the skid plate and the bolt is not pointig down, it's lateral. now, that bolt is about 3 inches long and there is an oring on it, so don't be suprised that it doesn't fall out in your hand like on your car. you have to pull it out. drain all the oil. replace the plug with a new washer. (if you don't have one, don't worry, I've reused mine 5 times). Tighten the plug.

On the right side of the engine you'll see a round cover with a bolt right in the center of it. Its toward the front of the engine. (if you can't find this, you have no business with a wrench in your hand) CLEAN the cover and surrounding area. remove the bolt, cover, filter and spring.

The filter goes in either way, there is no wrong way to put it in. put the spring in, then the filter. Run the bolt through the cover and through the filter and spring. Don't worry, it'll seat itself as you run the bolt in.

back to the left side of the quad.

The dip stick is the cap on the lower left (facing the side of the quad) remove it and wipe it off. put it back in the hole, do not screw it back in. the oil level is checked from the top of the threads, not screwed in. Start dumping oil into the hole you uncapped earlier on the lower right. it takes the better part of a gallon of oil. fill it most of the way, screw both caps on and start it up. check for leaks under and around the filter cap. shut it down, re check the oil and fill to the appropriate mark on the dip stick.

To reset the oil change light, hold down the odometer and clock buttons for a few seconds. (with the ignition turned on).

Happy motoring!

Where is the VIN on a 1986 Honda Fourtrax?

check the manual for the people that dont have the manual like myself it is located on the front rack underneth the plastic fenders. right where you would mount a winch. chances are if you have a winch on your bike you will have to take the winch off to be able to read it.

How do you remove Rear brake drum from Honda fourtrax ATV?

Depending on the year it could be mounted on the right rear wheel or to the right of the rear axle support. If it is on the wheel, you have to remove the spindle by removing the cotter pin and unscrewing the castle nut, then unscrew the bolts holding the cover to the backing plate, then making sure the brakes are backed all the way off, gently work the drum off using pry bars if necessary. Be careful, the backing plate is aluminum and will break easily. If on the axle, you will have to remove the spindle as above. Then you have to remove the axle nuts that are against the drum cover. If they have never been off, soak them in PB Blaster prior to removal, I have had to use heat on quite a few as well to get them off. Once they are removed, the procedure is the same.

How do you adjust the idle screw on a 1999 Honda TRX 250 Recon?

The screw on the upper side of the carb is the idle speed adjustment. The air to fuel or air screw is located lower on the bottom of the carb, right in front of the carb bowl.

Procedure: First, warm the engine by driving the ATV for ten minutes or more, or let it idle. It has to be done outside in the open air, doing this in a closed garage can lead to sudden death from carbon monoxide poisoning. First, locate the idle adjustment screw. With the engine running, give this a few turns until you know how to increase and decrease the engine speed. Now, listen to the engine and twist the idle adjustment screw slowly from right to left or counter-clockwise. The engine speed will begin to drop. Now go on to turn the screw counter-clockwise until you hear the engine begin to stall or miss. When this happens, you turn the screw back half a in the other direction or clockwise.

For the air screw, to get a richer mixture then tighten this screw. To lean it out, loosen it. Do this in small steps, then try revvying and driving the ATV between adjustments until you are satisfied with the way it runs. A very lean air mixture will make the ATV backfire on deceleration. If this happens, enrich the mixture a bit.
