How do you replace the Rear Brake Light assembly in a 2004 Honda Civic?

On the 2004 Honda Civic LX, the Rear Brake Light Assembly is held in place by 4 screws AND 2 Bolts. Unfortunately the Chiltons Repair guide does NOT cover the removal of the Brake Light Assembly and I destroyed the old one before I figured out how i was SUPPOSED to do it. Below are the steps.

To Complete this task you'll need a Philips head screwdriver and a 10mm metric socket wrench.

The Removal Instructions cover how I did it for a 2004 Honda Civic LX 4 Door:

1. Open the Trunk Lid.

2. Disconnect the two bulb connectors.

3. Remove the three screws holding the Brake Light to the trunk interior.

4. Get under the car and look up, under the Rear Bumper you'll see that there is

a fourth screw still attached through a metal bracket. Remove the screw.

5. You will also need loosen the two bolts holding the bracket. There isn't enough room to take the bolts off. Besides, you relly don't need to. Once you get it loose enough, the Brake Light should slide out.

6. That's it! Reverse the steps for reinstallation.

Hope that helps!

How can you open a 1999 civic hood when the release does not work?

All you need to do is find the hood cable through the grill or by going underneath the car then just pull on it. You may not hear a pop but just pull on it and then try to open it like you normally would. After you have it open you may want to remove the front upper grill because it will be extremely easy to open next time.

How do you reattach a hood latch on a 1988 Honda Civic?

On alot of the Honda models that I have seen the hood latches are bolted on. but with frequent use and considering the age of most of the Honda's on the road , the latches sometimes break off from the mounting area and need to be welded back on. If the holes became to big for the bolts you can simply add large washers to the bolts and secure it again. Any way you decide to do it make sure it is ligned up to lock correctly before you weld it or bolt it down.
