How do you unclog a sink drain full of cooked rice?

Have water in the sink and either a snake or a plunger. Either one will let a few grains go down the drain and eventually it will open. Run plenty of water after it opens to flush out the drain.

What is the white lipid material that insulates the axon of a neuron?

The white lipid material that insulates the axon of a neuron is called myelin. In the central nervous system, myelin is created by oligodendrocytes while in the peripheral nervous system the myelin is created by Schwann cells. The purpose of myelin is to speed up action potentials. It's important to know that the myelin does not coat the axon entirely; each sheath of myelin is separated by a gap, called a node of Ranvier. These gaps are responsible for the quick transport of action potentials, due to the fact that the potentials can "jump" from node to node rather than having to travel down the entire length of the axon (this is called saltatory conduction).

Why is it important to protect home water pipes from freezing?

Because if they freeze they may burst, then you will have a mess and no water.

How do we tell if the leak in the kitchen ceiling is coming from the bathroom or the roof?

When would you shut off outside water before winter?

You would shut off water in the last few weeks of autumn before the first frosts of winter to prevent a frozen pipe.

What is causing when the toilet is flushed or when the water is shut off at the sink faucet sound like door knocking come from shower wall upstairs main wash room thank you?

It sounds as if you are describing "hammering" caused by air trapped in the supply lines. There is a "hammering" add on for your pipes that can be installed by a DIY person yet usually a plumber might be your best answer. Water travels through supply lines faster than you would suspect and the abrupt stopping (when a faucet is closed) can have the water continue, momentarily, causing the sound you mentioned, the device helps cushion the water/airflow.

How does a pump up toilet system operate and are they dependable or finicky?

Check different manufacturers specifications and different brands offer different quality

When shower is turned on water still comes out faucet. What is the problem?

You need to check your hot/cold handles or the shower spicket. Not sure what type you have, but they come off. More than likely you need to just replace a gasket..

Why does a hot water tank gurgle when you turn off the hot water?

Older water heaters have been in the house for a while and usually build up sediment in the bottom of the tank. This can be calcium deposits that have broken off and sand that came in the house with the water. In any case, once you have sediment in the tank the water heater won't work anywhere NEAR as efficiently as when it was new. Water heaters turn on when cold water comes into the tank. Cold water comes into the tank when you use some of the HOT water that is in the tank. When a gas water heater turns on the flame heats the bottom of the tank. If sediment is on the bottom, the water does not move quickly out of the way, and instead stays trapped in the sediment until the small amount of trapped water reaches boiling point. Then it explodes into steam and moves out of the way, allowing more water to slide back in to the small area among the sediment. The process repeats and makes a gurgling noise that is really little more than a warning that you are about to buy a new water heater. You can greatly increase the life expectancy of a water heater by periodically draining a little water from the water heater using the water valve that is near the bottom of the tank. You only need to drain a few gallons, but do it regularly, at least every month or two.

How would you pressurize the system at the main water supply line?

If you are talking about a normal house, all you need to do to 'pressurize the system' is turn on the main valve, then open up each tap/faucet in turn until water is flowing freely.

Why is water dripping from the airconditioner when it's a hot day?

What causes the cold water pipes in your house to make a constant banging sound it seems to be coming from the main water valve in the front of the house?

Most of the time its caused by lose pipe supports and no expansion tank or air chamber. Most fast closing solenoid valves will be the start of the problem. Copper pipes are usually the loudest and if you can see your pipes just shake them and use extra supports and it should go away, or add air chambers to all of your solenoid valves like dishwashers, fridges, washer machines etc.

Why outdoor water faucet will not drain even when the water supply valve is shut off?

Shutting off the valve doesn't drain anything. You need to open something lower than the faucet and open that faucet to let air take the place of the water.

How does candy turn into compost?

The work of micro-organisms -- in the context of proper aeration, heat, light, moisture -- is the way in which candy turns into compost. Such soil food web members as bacteria, fungi, and nematodes will break down all of the candy's ingredients -- even the sugars -- into dark-colored, fresh-smelling, nutrient-rich organic matter.

Why would a faucet run if it is off?

Older faucets have a washer in them that seals the faucet when off. They are hard rubber and split with age. Newer ones have a small rubber cup in them that does the same thing. Either one is fairly easy to replace. Either a box of washers or a kit for the newer ones should be $3 or $4 dollars.

How often should you change a GE water filter?

GE recommends that you change your refrigerator water filter every 6 months, or if you are a heavy user, when you notice that the water quality has diminished.

What do you pour down a drain to unblock it?

You can improvise a drain cleaner by pouring baking soda down the drain (bail the sink or tub out first), then following with vinegar. Let it foam for a few minutes, then flush with hot water. Serious clogs may need Liquid Plum'r or Drano. (These are caustic, and can burn skin, so be careful. If you use them and still need a plumber, let the plumber know you used them; nobody likes a surprise like that.)

Instructions on using gatorbite adapters on plastic pipe?

You simply push the pipe firmly into the coupling with the adaptor mounted in the end of the pipe. Then do the same with the other side. What could be easier.

What is causing air in the hot water line but not the cold and it started after the hot water heater and vacuum breaker were replaced 3 months ago and has not stopped?

I think the only reasonable answer can be that the cold and hot water inlet/outlets are reversed. your hot water line is attached, at the heater to the cold water inlet or your hot water outlet is too short inside of the tank
