This generation could also use both iPod USB and iPod FireWire cables for syncing and charging. All iPod mini models could also sync and charge on both iPod USB and iPod FireWire cables. iPod shuffles (1st generation) had a USB plug built right into them, and could plug directly into a USB port. The iPod shuffle (2nd generation) has a custom dock that ships with it. The dock has a custom cradle with single plug that resembles a headphone plug that charges and syncs the iPod shuffle on one end, and a USB plug on the other end.
