If it is the 5th gen 30 GB or 60 GB you simply will run a guitar pic throughout the space between the back casing and the front. pry the front off. Yes,but all the songs you synced off your friends computer will be gone.I would reccommend putting the songs you want off your friends computer on to a blank CD and syncing the CD to your library.
