Iroquois Indians

the Iroquois village didn't really have money. All they did was trade for food,clothing, and tools and weapons.

Besides performing the normal household functions of producing, preserving and preparing food and clothing for the family and taking care of the children, Iroquois women participated in many activities commonly reserved for men. They gambled, they belonged to Medicine Societies (spiritual associations) and they participated in political ceremonies.

The Iroquois made baskets from birch bark by first carefully stripping the bark from the tree in large pieces. They then cut the bark into specific shapes and sizes, folding and stitching the edges together using natural fibers like twine or strips of sinew to create a sturdy structure. The baskets were often decorated with intricate patterns and designs, reflecting the Iroquois' artistic traditions. Finally, they would sometimes treat the bark with oils or other substances to enhance durability and water resistance.

Some traditions of the Algonquians are powwows. people danced and feasted. The Algonquins also had special spirits they believed in. The one spirit that all tribes believed in was the Manitou. The Manitou was responsible for all things that happened that were good.

There are 4 points to the Native American Indian Social Stucture:

1. The Elders are the wisest and most respected. They are always the ones to come to if in need of help.

2. The men are the warriors. They go out to hunt and collect food. They are the ones who are called upon when a battle is taking place.

3. The women are the ones who stay back at the camp to prepare food and attend to household duties.

4. The boys were taught how to hunt and fight by the Elders or the men. The girls stayed back at the camp and were taught by the women.
