I take it you mean the section of steel body work under the doors also known as sills in the UK.
These are very prone to rust in earlier models, and is not an easy job.
a) disconnect the EMU - under the bonnet left hand side at the back held on by one anti-tamper screw
b) disconnect the two connections to the alternator front of engine bay under the air filter box which will need to be removed.
c) as far as I know there are no pattern parts for the repair in the UK only jaguar are available at £360 EACH however sheet metal shops can supply parts from your design (if you like try Hutcheon Services Aberdeen, Scot)
d) remove the outer plastic cover, plastic screws underneath and clips at the side, remove inner plastic wings front and rear, remove lower front wing and prise away from body for access
d) the sill is made up of four sections
- Outer sill which you can see when you remove the plastic sill
Cut approximately 10mm down from the 90deg fold in the vertical section and grind out spot welds on the lower body flange, Note; at the rear leave in the expanded section (80MM) and cut under the sill 20mm
A bottle jack and a strip of wood may be required to push in the panel at the lower sill when re fitting - work from back to front fitting a temporary fixing screw / poprivet every 200mm
Note there are also plug welds underneath to the inner / outer sill

Cut approximately 20mm down from the outer sill cut, right up to the front wheel arch (repair for re-use)

There is a good chance that the lower section is rusted out if so cut away just under the section openings - repair strip required

Check that the lower flange is re usable and start to re-weld in all the components
The outer / outer sill may require a 2 part repair patch under the front wheel arch
I found that in-conjunction with a 1mm thick cutting disk an electrical hand held chop saw with a metal cutting blade give a good straight cut (Orange black & Decker about £40)
The front door may require removing, however it can be temporarily held up by an engine hoist to save disconnecting the electrics.
Well not for the feint hearted, the moral of the story, buyer beware and get the waxoil in to the sills / rocker panels ASAP

How do you change the spark plugs in a 2003 Jaguar X-type?
I am no mechanic, but I was able to change the spark plugs off my 2003 V6 Jaguar X-Type. Replace spark plugs every 100k miles. The gap for plugs is .5. If you ask a parts person at a local auto parts place, they will tell you that the spark plug gap is not listed in their computer system. The spark plug gap for all vehicles may be found in a manufacture catalog, such as Auto Lite or Champion. Ask the local auto parts people not to be lazy and look in their catalogs.
The Spark plugs are located under the manifold. You will need to remove the top manifold. Sounds easy, but there is a lot of work involved just to get to that point. My suggestion is to go to a Jaguar dealership (parts department) and ask them to print you a diagram of the engine intake manifold and air filter assembly. The printed diagram displays where all the screws are and its free.
Steps (off the top off my head)
Remove Battery (not needed, but it may give you more room.
Remove the air filter assembly from the intake manifold.
Remove the engine oil cap and remove the plastic engine cover. It has 3 screws.
Screw back the engine oil filter (just remember to remove it again when you screw back the engine cover)
Unplug electrical connectors that are plugged into the upper manifold. Careful, the plastic on the connectors may be dried out and possible crack if you use brute force.
Remove the mounting bolts for the upper intake manifold. There are 3 on the manifold sides. one on left, back, and right. If you are trying to remove the upper manifold and its not removing off, then its because there is still a screw holding it from the side.
Remove the top 8 screws holding the top engine manifold.
Remove the upper manifold and move it to the side.
Now you have access to the spark plugs. Try not to lose any screws. If you lose screws, take a different screw to Home Depot, Lowes, or an Auto parts store and see if they can match it. Make sure you tell them that it needs to be a machine screw and able to withstand heat.
Good Luck. It took me a long time to find this answer when I did my own tune up. Remember, the diagram displays where all the screws are.

I'm doing it right now on 4 button 2002 x type lazer cut key fob.. w/small screw driver, pry 2 halves apart. Then split the half w/the 4 buttons apart again with a small screw driver. That will expose a circuit board, remove one Phillips screw, remove that & the battery is below that. The battery is a Panasonic CR 2032 3volt battery. It's about the size of a nickel. I suggest you buy the battery before disassembling the remote. I couldn't because I didn't know what battery to buy.. But know you do..

How do you change headlights on a 2002 Jaguar X type?
The "book" will tell you to pull the entire assembly and lower front bumper cover, but you can do it from the engine compartment easily. There are two soft rubber covers on the back of each light assembly that have a bar clip that slides off and releases them. Remover the rubber cover to expose the lamps. I have the Xenon lights but they should be about the same either way plus or minus a few parts. you should then be able to twist and remove the lamp bulb and replace it. then just reverse the process. Note: If you have Xenon lights...are yo sure that the bulb is the problem? Mine was the Igniter that mounts to the back of the bulb itself. Good test is to swap the igniter with the other side and see if the problem follows or stays. Good luck!
How do you back up the piston in the caliper on the rear brakes of a 2002 X-type?
Its on a 'staircase' pawl. Twist. push, twist, push etc.
Use a 12mm (about 1/2inch) hex key to rotate the piston at center hole. no need to push, just rotate. Before rotation don't forget to let the handbake off, and brake fluid reservoir open.
Check the piston gaskets and replace if needed (Ford Mondeo MK3 compatible), the set for the Ford Mondeo is about 11$ per caliper.
