Check the light dimmer switch inside. It should be on the left side of the steering wheel next to the headlight switch. More than likely it is pushed all the way over to keep the interior lights on.

I had a car that did that years ago. to cut to the chase it finally made a real loud knock when one of the big ends came out through the side of the motor. the cam was broken in about 5 places and the sump looked like some one had fired a missile launcher through it. it could be a piston Little end shaft or bearing about to give up the ghost or the piston might be ceasing or a big end bearing may be packing it in. Perhaps you just need oil.

Hi - This is familiar because I just did it myself about a month ago- I own a 95 Grand Cherokee 4.0L/Auto. I had the transmission replaced over a year ago and had to go back to the shop to have the Transmission_Throttle cable adjusted (I wasn't shifting in/out of 1st/2nd in the low ranges (15-20mph), they told me it was old and would need to be replaced if it happened again... it did about 6 months later this past March 2006... I bought the cable at the Jeep dealer for about $42.00 and replaced it in my driveway in about 30 minutes... simple replacement.. I used a Flatblade and pliers to remove the clips.

To adjust the cable: For me it was trial and error, but - The adjustment is in the form of a locking clip at the section of cable that connects to the throttle linkage. Pull out the clip with either your fingers, pull it up with the pliers, or poke it up with the screw driver (different Clip styles are made over the years I later learned). You have maybe 1.25" of cable play forward/backward... try adjusting in either direction and replace the clip each time, drive around the parking lot or side road and keep adjusting until you feel it shifting correctly.

you will have to remove housing in rear, break down axel, pull the side you are working on away from the wheel & replace bearing, it also requires a special tool to get into the housing case

On my 1993, 1 is Brown/with a light green tracer, the other is black. If the bulbs are good & the sockets look O.K. The Back up lights then go to the transmission. Right side reverse switch or some say neutral safety switch.

Ignition timing is the primary reason.

After you reset the timing. check to be sure the ignition components are working.

Also check the carb. is it clean and adjusted properly? do you smell gas. Is it flooding?

First check the seat fuse if it is good- then maybe the small motor that controls the seat- Fyi there are more than one motor for controling the different seat possitionings if it is manaul then check the seat rail for something blocking the movement .

You can get a replacement at the dealership, ( about $600.00 was what I was quoted) or eBay has them fairly regularly. There may be a difference between the 93-95 and the 96-98 display, you would need to verify.

I had similar problem with same model/year and i took the unit out of the dash unplugged it and plugged it in again and now works fine...

if you look under the vehicle passengers side door you will see the engine and transmission the starter is bolted the transmission

mudislife2: there are three bolts holdong it on. one for the wire and two to hold the starter on. it is incredably easy to change if its a 6cyl.

What type of coolant sensor? The below answer is for the coolant LEVEL sensor. The coolant TEMPERATURE sensor on my vehicle is located just next to the thermostat housing. On the front top center area of the engine just behind the radiator. Follow the coolant hoses if you have trouble.

On my 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee the sensor is located on the top of the plastic coolant reservoir tank. Look for a small (2-wire?) electrical connector.

I just had my water pump replaced on my 1996 Grand Cherokee for the first time at 120,000 miles. It cost 75 for the pump and 25 for the labor. They were already doing a tune-up so I don't know if that decreased the cost of the labor charge. Now my "coolant sensor bad" no longer displays. Yahoo to that.

I own a 1997 Jeep GC Laredo with a 4.0 six-cylinder to find the thermostat simply follow your upper radiator hose to the engine block and then take off the two bolts that hold the cover on. You should then see the thermostat sitting there inside. Just be sure to put the new thermostat back in the same way the old one came out if you put it in upside-down it will not function properly.
