Hundreds of living Koreans remain separated from living siblings and other relatives with some living in South Korea and others living in North Korea. Every Korean male is required to serve about eighteen months of military service, which in itself constitutes a kind of suffering. As a conseqence of the military-service requirement for males, South Korea refuses to allow any form of dual citizenship for adults, causing yet another (mild) form of suffering. Foreign nationals who wish to naturalize are required to denounce all other citizenships, resulting in very low incidence of naturalization.

What are the pros and cons of the Korean war?
Pros:
To fight the Korean War was an important step to stop communism from spreading. If the United States would not have fought the war, communism would have spred and that was what had to be stopped. The domino effect could have continued to spread when this war was not fought. Cons:
Thousands of American lives were losti n this war in a place that most Americans never even heard about. To many it seemed worthless and there was no reason to fight this war. Why should Americans care about something that is halfway around the world? ---- Today it seems that it was good to fight the Korean War, a war, that many Americans had never heard of, because it stopped communism from spreading.
What was the policy of containment in Vietnam?
Korea was the FIRST "Hot" battle of the Cold War. Vietnam was the SECOND "Hot" battle of the Cold War. The Communists lost (or stalemated) with the first battle, but won the second battle. The communists were contained in Korea. They expanded in Vietnam.
The policy of containment in Vietnam was a US foreign policy to contain and isolate the spread of communism to neighboring countries. If communism were not contained in North Vietnam, then South Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, and Thailand would inevitably become communist as well.
Why was the Korean war a threat to world peace?
It was feared that the United States would attack Communist China directly to stem the flow of Chinese fighting along side the North Korean army. The Chinese would then call on their Communist allies, the Soviet Union, to help the Chinese. The Soviets would then intervene either directly in China, or in a move to draw the United States off balance, the Soviets would launch an attack against perhaps Europe or Japan. In addition, it could not be certain if the United States or the Soviets would go nuclear in such an exchange. Thus, the Korean war could have turned into World War III. However, to forstall that, United States President Harry S Truman did not escalate the Korean "police action". Indeed, President Truman fired General Douglas MacArthur to ensure it did not happen. It was General MacArthur who advocated taking the battle to the Communist Chinese in their own country.
Who appeared to be winning the Korean war until china actively entered the conflict?
Until substantial ground forces of Communist China entered the conflict in 1951, the Korean War was in fact being won by the associated American, international (or, United Nation), and (South) Korean troops arrayed against their North Korean enemy. With the entry of China, fortunes reversed several times for each side before a shaky truce was arranged in 1953.

Why did Chinese join south Korea in the fight against un forces?
As a matter of fact China did not join South Korea it joined North Korea.
The truth to all this was that than Kim asked China for their blessing to invade South Korea.
As the allied forces pushed North Koreans back China grew scared that the americans may also invade China so in turn it sent one millionChineseforces to prevent the americans from reaching the river which divides North Korea and China.
North Korea was in the brink of loosing the war if itwasn'tfor China's intervention North Korea would of cease to exist.
What might have happened if MacArthur had convinced Truman to expand the fighting into china?
we all would eat loads of icecream.... what do ya think?
In My opinion, MacArthur wanted to Nuke China to save the lives it would have taken to beat back what was then left at the time farmers, and untrained men. We beat their best in the push back north the second time, and their casualties were much greater than ours. The kill rate was 10/1, The real fear was igniting another World War. Russia would probably have gotten involved because they would not have wanted American soldiers on their doorstep. With a true 100 American push we could have defeated China at that time provided Russia not get involved. I think we made a mistake in not pushing back to the north of Korea and setting up a defensive line and thus leaving a free united Korea. Truman was in to much of a hurry to just negotiate a cease fire for the appetite of the American people right after WWII was for an end to war. MacArthur had the right Idea and had we followed his Leadership excluding the nukes the world would be better off today for it.
