1) Visors & Visor Clips
2) All grab Handles
3) Front Plastic Console, once all the Philips screws are out and the console is dropped then and only then remove the wire for the front dome light, don't remove the clear plastic cover from the front much to much work, remove the wires only from the back.
4) Remove the front "A" Post
5) Open front and back doors, remove rubber seal from around the "B" Post, unclip the "B" Post Clips that hold the "B" Post cover to the Pillar. You can only remove the "B" Post Cover by using this method.
6) If you have a Rear Seat Belt in the cargo area you will need to remove it (17mm) to feed it through the Side Window Trim Panels
7) Remove the Plastic Rear Cover that are around the rear side windows, their are about they are held in with about 7 plastic push clips.
8) Remove rear dome light closest to the rear 5th door
9) remove the felt trim around the opening of the sunroofs both front and back
10) Remove the Rear Sunroof Switch located within the plastic console, behind it you will find a Phillips head screw that holds the plastic console to the Roof of the Vehicle, once this screw has been removed then detach the wire harness for the rear AC switch, Dome light etc.
11) Now your ready to remove the Headliner Board out the rear door 5th door.
12) Remember to Fold down both the rear seats before removing the board.

These figures are a guideline only. Always check the oil level using the dipstick, and do not overfill. The engine oil level should be within the hatched area, slightly less than "Full". Overfilling the engine with oil can cause damage. When in doubt consult your owners manual.

My 1995 Land Rover Discovery was stuck in "Park" because the brake light switch was faulty. Ordinarily, you must step on the brake to shift out of Park. If you depress the brake pedal and your tail-lights do not light up, it's likely because the switch is broken. The switch is located near the hinge of the brake pedal; underneath the steering column. Your local auto parts store should have a replacement; I bought two at $10 each... and keep the spare in the glove box in case this happens again.

Press and hold down the "mode" button until the radio beeps, then enter the code. I can't remember if you have to press "mode" again after entering the code or not, but i don't think so.

If you don't know the code to your radio you will have to go into a L.R. dealership and they can tell it to you.

Not being an automotive engineer, I can't say for certain, but aluminum has some very useful properties:

1. It does not rust beyond the outermost molecular layer, so water will not significantly weaken it.

2. It is very lightweight, important for gas mileage and such, especially with something as big as a land rover.

3. Unlike steel, it retains most of its strength even at freezing temperatures. At normal room temperature, steel is (by some measures) over 20 times stronger than aluminum. However, it quickly becomes more brittle as it chills, and will, at 0c, actually break more easily than an equivalent piece of aluminum. The aluminum also weakens as it chills, but much more gradually. Its effective strength at room temperature may not be much, but it's nearly the same at 0c. So you need more aluminum (and/or a stronger configuration) to hold up at room temperature, but you don't have to worry about it breaking in the cold.

(A lesson well illustrated by the WWII-era "Liberty Ships." Steel cargo ships which worked very well until they were brought through the chill temperatures of the northern Atlantic... at which point they snapped in half, one after another.)

4. It is also cheap, plentiful, easily molded, and readily recycled - all potential reasons to choose it over, say, carbon composite (which is also lightweight, strong, and rust-resistant).

5. It's shiny, or can be made so. People like shiny things.

I think it is also to do with availability. When the first Land Rovers were produced, just post WW2, there was lots of recycled aluminium around, from scrapped war planes. They were also, initially, an agricultural vehicle, so designed to have a long working life. This then became tradition at L/R, to have a lot of aluminium panels on their vehicles.

It is fairly easy to change the rear lights in a discovery 2. First dirve to the nearest land rover dealership (which may be approximately around 50 miles from where your disco is located). Tell them you want the rear lights to be replaced. They will ask you to leave the vehicle there overnight so that their mechanic can get to it the next day. The next day in the afternoon you go and pick up the vehicle. Not only would they have replaced your rear lights they would have also changed the wind shield wipers. You pay the $1000 bill and you are all set.

The 1997 Land Rover Discovery (Series One / Series I) uses a coil pack that is mounted above the engine at the rear, towards the bulkhead/firewall. Each spark plug is directly connected to a single coil of the coil pack, and thus does not use a distributor.

IN OUR '98 I HAD TO GO UNDER THE VEHICLE AND REMOVE THE WHOLE ASSEMBLY FROM THE BACK. THERE'S PROBABLY A BETTER WAY, BUT THAT'S HOW I DID IT. ARM YOURSELF WITH PATIENCE. THERE IS NO EASY WAY ! Gene T.

The best way is to have it serviced and they will reset it for you. That light came on because your vehicle isn't running properly and a trouble code got stored in the controll module. A mechanic will hook up his analyser and read the code. This alone will clear the code and the light will go out, but you still have to fix the problem or the light will come back on within minutes.

For '98 Malibu first you have to know your code (probably a four digit code). Mine started with 0 and I disregarded that. After you find the code turn on car to acc. and push the minute button until numbers come up. Then push the hour button to get your first number and then minute button for last two numbers. Push am/FM button. Your car should be set. I had to insert a CD in mine which it was then kicked out then the radio started working. Hope this helps.
