MacBook is Good portable computers. If you want a desktop that is the best a Mac Pro i the best out of all the Macs. But if you want something simple and not to high tech then a MacBook is the way to go.

To remove the mounting pedestal/stand:

On the rear of the monitor you will find two covers around and inch or so square covering the top sides of the monitor bracket where it meets the back of the panel - these can be prized of with a small flat-bladed screwdriver (I think there are little "notches" for inserting the screwdriver to remove them).

Once the covers are off simply unscrew the bolts fastening the stand to the panel. Replace the bolts in the holes they came from then replace the cover - that way you won't lose the screws in case you want to remount the stand, and the covers look better than the bare mounting areas.

If you have windows: click on start (in the left-bottom of the screen) and click on (the little arrow next to, if you have windows 7) shut down. You'll get a menu, asking if you want to save energy, restart or shut down. Click on restart.

If you have OSX (macbook): click on the little apple icon in the left-top of the screen and click on restart.

You can hook up an external monitor to it. Most notebooks have a VGA port. If the laptop is on, you will need to use a key sequence, usually FN+F5 or FN+F4 or FN+F7. There should be a symbol that looks kind of like a monitor on one of the F keys. That is the one you should press along with the FN key.

Most of the time if you connect the monitor to it while it is off and then turn it on the monitor will automatically come on.

In Windows 10, click Task View, which is next to the search field on the taskbar. Then click +New Desktop on the bottom right side. You should now see two icons. One for Desktop 1 and one for Desktop 2. Click on Desktop 2. In Desktop 2 open your program that must remain open. The software should now open normally.

Now click on the Task View icon again and select Desktop 1. You will now see a desktop where you can open your other programs. When you need to get back to your original program, click the Task View icon again and select Desktop 2. You will see the program that has to stay open.

Yes...a laptop is a computer. Basically the same thing as a desktop computer, only smaller. It has a motherboard, processor, memory, BIOS...etc. The same parts as a "normal" computer, only smaller!! That's primarily why the cost more. The engineering behind it.
