I recently bought an HP pavillion dv6000 and I think its really nice. I bought it for £599 from Staples but now its available a hundred pounds cheaper.The good features in this laptop are:+ Integrated webcam and microphone so you do not have to get a new one.+ Windows Vista Home Premium with Microsoft Work office program installed so you do not have to buy any new office software.Intel dual Core 3 USB portsLight scribe which allows you to print directly on a CD without the need of a printer. Good if you want to make your own CD labels but don't want to use stickers. It's professional printing.Very classy design and very smooth mouse pad.Wireless feature.I think overll its a good laptop for under £600.

As with most things,"the less anything is on or used the longer it will last". As you sleep at night your life's clock continues to run and eventually you will die, so it goes with most everything. "Off" for inanimate things is better than "sleep" This is why we turn off the TV, the car, lights when not in use.

Nothing, well a tablet needs a touch sensitive screen, because you do usually not have a keyboard and mouse.

A laptop has a keyboard and a pointing device, but can have a touch sensitive screen, and this screen may also be made so that it flips over and cover the keyboard and the pointing device - as on a tablet.

I led a company that discovered it was cheaper to make prototypes of tablets using laptops, so we bought spare parts for a laptop, fitted a touch sensitive screen to this, with a driver that made it look as if it was the good old screen, coded a keyboard for the screen, and had a demonstration unit that we did not have to design and prototype in China, could make one in the laboratory and fit in our own casing, power supply and batteries. Showing it to prospective buyers worked fine, they did not demand to see the internals.

I see that Android tablets can easily be equipped with both keyboard and mouse, and also the iPad. some of these keyboards are in the cover, so attached to the tablet while this is protected. So maybe the difference is that a tablet can a laptop, while most laptops cannot be a tablet?

If your laptop doesn't have Wifi included you can buy a USB Wifi adapter at any computer store. The adapter is the size of a standard USB memory stick, with the exception that it has a 802.11 chip and antenna in it.

The setup is pretty simple. Simply install the driver that's included onto your laptop, plug in your adapter and your should be ready to connect! :-)

Yes, Dell laptops are really good quality. They are really quick and take no time at all to load. They are definitely great value for money, and they are very stylish as well.

My Acer Aspire 5315 just shuts off for no reason a lot. I know it isn't overheating because it's not hot at all. Just blip and it's off. Can anyone think of a solution and or cause? Thanks.

it depends on the jack you have, there is a hole on the side of your laptop with either a mic symbol next to it is colored red. if you insert the mic in there it should work. if the end of the mic is USB, you need to connect it into your USB slot. if the laptop doesn't pick up the mic, you need to go into my computer and go on devices to find it! however you laptop might not be compatible with the mic.

if you answer their survey, you will be asked for personal information that should NEVER be given out to an unknown party, information such as social security numbers. Remember , to receive the laptop, you must answer the survey in its entirety. Unfortunately it is not just one survey, there are hundreds, many are redundant and I suppose if you answered the entire survey to the end, if there is an end, and seems like it lasts forever, they wear you down till you have no more time to answer any more questions and you get out, ergo, no completion, no laptop. Depending on your needs there are several programs which could be used for this. All of them require network connection. If you need to view the monitor of another computer on your lan (most of the time meaning within the same house) I would recommend VNC. All you have to do it install the server part on the computer you wish to watch remotely and then run the client on the computer you wish to watch from and enter the machine or IP address of the server machine.

If you want to view the screen of a computer outside of your lan (over the internet) I would recommend Teamviewer. Free to use for non-comercial use and also pretty easy to get started on. On the computer you wish to watch, press the "Join Remote Control Session" just below the green download button on the frontpage. Run the file once it's downloaded and write down the ID and password showing on the window popping up. On the pc you wish to watch from, you should go to the teamviewer page and press the green download button and run it once it's downloaded. I'm not sure what you mean by 'view mode', but To change the contrast or brightness, there are probably buttons somewhere on the monitor - see the documentation that came with it. To change the size of various things on your screen, go to control panel, then choose 'display'. From the settings tab you can alter the screen resolution, which will make everything bigger (or smaller) - but may distort things, especially if you have a wide-screen monitor. If you choose the next tab along: 'appearance', you get all sorts of options via the 'advanced' button. If you just wanted to change the size of what you see on your monitor when using an Office application, click on 'view', then click on 'zoom' to change the zoom level. If you need to change zoom levels frequently, you can pin the zoom option to your toolbar: click on the down-pointing arrow at the far right of the existing toolbar, select 'add or remove buttons', then 'standard'; check the box for zoom in the list that appears.

You can use the laptop while it is charging.

I have had laptops connected to their charging device plugged into a wall socket for weeks. Some but not all of them have had problems with their batteries loosing capacity. I suspect the deterioration is due to insufficient "intelligence" in the charger.

First time charging of modern Lithium ion batteries: often at least 12 hours (see the manual).

Subsequent charging cycles: Check the laptops battery status with software (usually installed on a laptop).

Older Nickel Cadmium batteries are a much different story: The NiCd battery should be regularly depleted (and not too slowly either) and recharged fully or a "memory" effect will come into play whereby the battery capacity is drastically reduced.

Sometimes about 3 to 5 hours. Some suggest the best way is to have two batteries used alternately to extend battery life.
