Learning Tips and Study Habits

Here are some traits of an effective reader:

• a good vocabulary - an effective reader has learned many words and can understand them
• a logical mind - an effective reader can figure out what a new word or phrase means by studying context clues or by doing research
• curiosity - an effective reader asks questions as they read so that they understand more, and they also question what's going to come next because they're curious about the ending of the story or textbook
• willingness to learn - an effective reader sets out to learn something new every time they read, and they are willing and eager to do so

Learning is a relatively permanent change in behaviour that occurs as a result of experience

Now there are two types of learning: Classical conditioning and Operant Conditioning.

Classical conditioning: Learning through repeated association of two (or more) stimuli

•Learning is said to have occurred when a particular stimulus consistently produces a response, that it did not produce earlier (prior to conditioning)

Operant Conditioning:

•A learning process in which the consequences which follow a response determine whether the behaviour will be repeated

Trial and error learning:

Describes an organism's attempts to learn/solve a problem by trying alternative possibilities until a correct solution or desirable outcome is achievedLearning is not dependent on: reflexes, fixed-action patterns and maturation.

Its the most challenging question at present in this rapidly changing world. The four pillars of education coming out of the World Conference on Education in Jomtien, Thailand in 1990 can be taken as the point of departure: learning to know, learning to do, learning to live together and learning to be. Learning to know needs much emphasis at present day world because everything cannot be taught - knowledge is getting so vast. Even the skills are so rapidly changing. In a French review of their education system at the turn of millennium, they came up with the term adaptability in answer to the same question. You can not predict so rapidly changing trends - the best you can do is to prepare people to adapt to the situation. It more concretely applies in the skills (learning to do).

One has to translate these pillars into one's context. First condition of adaptability is to learn that everything is contextual and at the same time there is a core that is applicable everywhere.

Children are usually motivated by external means - it's not until they mature that they begin to motivate themselves and seek to feel good inside instead of getting some sort of reward. Scientific study has shown that positive reward is the best method of changing bad habits into good ones, so instead of punishment for poor work, try rewards for good work. (If it's a chore, however, they do need to complete it, whether they earn a reward or not)

Here are some good ways to reward your kids when they do what they need to do:

• extra play time - for every X minutes of study or work, they get X minutes of whatever sort of play they enjoy
• tokens - for every X minutes of study or work, or for every completed assignment, they receive X tokens, which may then be turned in for some other sort of reward, such as an item they really want you to buy for them
• family outings - if they complete X assignment or job properly, you'll plan a special family time event

You can think of lots of good rewards that don't include money or candy or other unhealthy rewards!

As an American, I think the most important thing you can learn from our history is that if you want something badly enough, and are willing to work for it, you can do anything.

We have made a country where anybody can succeed. Anybody can come here from any part of the world and live in freedom. We can travel anywhere we want in America, and live wherever we want to. We can learn as much as we want to, and much of our education is free to anyone who wishes to learn.

We fight and argue a lot between ourselves, but when things get tough, we band together like the big noisy family we are. And even though we have problems like prejudice and apathy, all you have to do is look at the man we elected in 2009, and you will understand that here in America - to the vast majority of people who call this great land home - it doesn't matter what color your skin or what your background. America is still the land of opportunity.

In a more cynical way, I would say that the best thing to learn from Americans is that if things aren't going the way you like, just pick up a big stick and hit people until they do what you want; if somebody accuses you of wrongdoing, say "he started it"; if someone beats you with their bigger stick, say "we still won" or "it was a draw".

Knowing how to measure is very important! Here are some things you will measure in your life if you are an average person:

• yourself (how tall am I, how big am I, what size am I, etc)
• your children
• your pets
• your home (how much carpet do I need, how tall is this room, how many curtains do I need to buy, etc)
• furniture (will this fit into my room, what size throw do I need, will it fit into my automobile, etc)
• clothing (what size is it, will it fit me, how much cloth do I need to make this, etc)

PS: ive never tried it mine 4 houre project due in on monday and then another 4 houre one is due in on like Thursday arrhh school why do they bother wasting paper
