I have a friend that I know cannot and does not take Benzo's such as Xanax but she is on Lexapro. She also takes Suboxone so the Dr had to give her a level test to make sure she is taking her medicine. The test came back positive for Benzo's. The Dr said that is probably why it did that. Also I have found a few reliable websites that say the same thing that it can happen.

Yes, it can. Depending on the dosage and one's unique physiology, lexapro can certainly increase one's appetite after a period taking it. I can attest to this personally and so can my mother and possibly one friend. Remember that your doctor has prescribed this not only because the overall benefits outweight the side effects but also because those said side effects, such as increased appetite, can be managed more effectively. I currently take it and can witness to this particular side effect. I naturally found that being on 20mg as opposed to 10mg made me that more ravenous when it came to food. If you're looking for a solution to this I'd talk to the doc and see what he or she recommends. The answer might not be in more meds but a change in habit (lifestyle, excercise, drinking more water, etc.

Oh, yeah, I am having it. I am even throwing things and having what I describe as an 'adult temper tantrum'. This is almost like the week before I start. I wish it would hurry up and go away - I am into week 4 of being lexapro-free.

I took Lexapro for 4 weeks and have been experiencing the withdrawal symptoms. I have been off this med for 6 days now and feel lightheaded, nausea, dizziness and having headaches. I sure hope this doesn't last too much longer.

Sometimes it increases panic attacks during hangovers. You can get very drunk with just a few drinks. You may completely passed out.

It's best not to drink while taking citalopram, but if you do, limit the number of drinks to one or two glasses of wine or one or two beers. Avoid hard liqueur completely. Stay home when consuming alcohol.

yes, you (obviously) know tachacardia is a symptom of lexapro. I (obviously) suggest you discontinue lexapro very (very) slowly to avoid the rapid pounding inside your chest......

Drinking while taking Wellbutrin isn't dangerous per se - Wellbutrin just amplifies the effects of alcohol. I take Wellbutrin and drink and nothing bad has happened to me, but I do need to drink less. If you're still concerned, Wellbutrin has a half-life of ~21 hours, so it will be mostly cleared from your body in 2 or 3 days.

I haven't found any difficulties with drinking alcohol on Wellbutrin, although I am only on 150 mg daily. I've read that it increases risk of seizures, which is higher with Wellbutrin as it is. Just be careful about how much you drink, I would say, or even better -- ask your doctor.

I believe that the above information is incorrect. My pharmacist told me and I've read online that when you drink alcohol while on wellbutrin it empties the stores of wellbutrin that youre body/brain has accumulated since you started. Many people go into wellbutrin withdrawal after they drink and feel really bad for days or weeks. Ive been through it, its HORRIBLE.

Hi one and all, my cousin who is in her sixties has been taking Seroxat and Diazepam as prescribed by her doctor and has been doing so for a few years now as she suffers from PTSD however I don't think Seroxat is suitable for a lot of people (including myself). I was the lucky one, I refused to take the drug and slowly came off it and went onto another SSRI type drug and then I built up the courage to go cold turkey as I really did not feel any better by taking either of these. However I did take a lot of drugs in my youth and felt that I could handle the nightmares that followed and I did! I think sometimes you have to take drastic action to get the result you crave although I am not fully cured of my particular PTSD I feel a lot better knowing that I do not have to take these drugs again. So to recap my cousin seems to be ok on both of these but I personally don't think it's the be all and end all cure for any depression or PTSD problems a lot of us seem to have.

As someone who has used Cocaine while taking Lexapro, I can tell you that it's not a happy outcome. The Cocaine high I experienced while also on Lexapro was the best I had ever had, simply an amazing feeling that didn't go away for 24 hours! Then, the next night I suddenly felt extreme anxiety and depression accompanied with thoughts of dread. I thought I should do more Cocaine to make these feelings go away, big mistake. The high I experienced this time was completely the opposite, now not only was I anxious and depressed, but I was wired and the stream of negative thoughts was flowing faster than before. Long story short, I then realized that Cocaine and Lexapro don't mix well, and as a result of that, I fell into a suicidal depression for the next week, until I was immediately taken off the Lexapro. The first time, the Cocaine and Lexapro made me feel better than I had ever felt before, but once I came down off this high, it was as if the Cocaine programmed my brain to react oppositely to the Lexapro, the days following the Lexapro made me feel more depressed, rather than it's usual anti-depressant properties. The Cocaine was like a switch that turned the Lexapro into a depressant rather than an anti-depressant. Don't do it!

I was started on 20mg nearly two years for the same symptoms and it helped. (I also was on Xanax .5mg for a few months but stopped that due to the high risk of addiction I had been reading about in some people- it did help the anxiety and did help me sleep but it is very temporary solution).

Now I am on 10mg of Lexapro daily which is a low maintenance dose and is fine for me (though the side effect of decreased libido is a bummer:-)

Talk to your doctor who after listening to you may increase your dose to 20mg. You can drop back to 10mg when the time is right. So, go to your doctor and talk and describe what you are feeling. A lot of people start at 20mg but talk to your doctor first, he/she may also give you something else. That said, Lexapro is favoured for its lesser side effects. There are side effects of course which I am sure you know about after being on them for two years. Good luck..

As far as Anxiety problems pills have not helped for me. I use Marijuana for medicinal and recreational purposes. This herb is one of the greatest known to man. It has helped greatly with my depression/stress/anxiety. On the other hand Marijuana (certain strains) makes me very happy and excited during the "high", and sometimes causing me to possibly release adrenaline in my body, in turn triggering Anxiety attacks. It's not that Marijuana is bad. It's that your senses in your body are only over-reacting to adrenaline and in turn causes your heart rate to increase, and etc. That is if you have GAD (Generalized Anxiety Disdorder). As far as mixing. Marijuana is the safest between the two (Marijuana vs Lexapro). Although, I would never mix. Certain people may react differently. Stay away from pills! Even Xanax. They are addicting. As well as lethal if not responcible. There are no adverse side-effects to Marijuana . Healthy clean,grown with care marijuana that is. Not the dried out smuggled in stuff that was half_arsed grown somewhere in Mexico a year ago, with chemicals. The stuff that you see in High Times magazine is potent for a reason. Medicinaly it is very benneficial. The more potent Marijuana is, the less you have to smoke. Which equals a healthier way to medicate. Also, you don't have to smoke marijuana to bennefit from it. So I say smoke up and take that stress away. It it wasn't illegal all of the USA could really bennefit. No need to become pill zombie's just because Doc is afraid to tell you the truth about Marijuana or is ignorant of this plant. God put it here for a reason. Harness it. You be the judge.

I just saw my Dr. Today because I am switching from Lexapro to Prozac because of weight gain on Lexapro. This is coming from my Dr. You MUST NOT MIX LEXAPRO and PROZAC. They are not compatible chemically. You must allow at least 3 or more days for the one drug to "wash out" of your system before you start the new one. You may need more time than that. Confirm this with your Dr.

Lamotrigine has been shown to be a reversible inhibitor of MAO-A (Ki=15 uM) and MAO-B (Ki = 18 uM). MAO inhibition is possible at doses of 100-200mg/day and this could be a mechanism for the serotonin increases seen with lamotrigine treatment. The binding to the enzyme seems to be very reversible, that is, other MAO substrates can readily displace it. To the best of my knowledge, it lacks any clinically relevant interactions that are normally seen with MAOIs.

When initially prescribing lexapro to me about 2 years ago, my doctor stated that the side effects were much less noticeable with this drug compared to the celexa I had been on, and especially for men. As a now 36 year old male who's been on the drug I can say this, my depression was abated, but I felt extremely "flat" or numb and couldn't experience emotions. Also, my sex drive became almost non-existent and though it was told to me that it is extremely rare for men to experience, I gained 15 pounds which I have tried very hard to get rid of through rigorous exercise and healthier diet. I have been unsuccessful in doing so - and this includes 6 months training for and completing a marathon. After 2 years of counseling, I now decided that I no longer need the depression relief and have started for the second time to withdraw from the drug. I can tell you that the withdrawal side effects are very real. I did a taper down program this time over a period of a month where I tapered from 20 mg down to 5 and now am at 0. I have been extremely irritable and have dizzy spells almost every 10 minutes. My tongue tingles a lot and I have been having extremely vivid nightmares and dreams. My hands don't shake, but my body definitely twitches and I do get the "brain freezes". It is a very weird feeling, but I will gladly go through this to the end so I never have to have another SSDI inhibitor in my body again. I am interested to see if the weight comes off, sex drive comes back and emotional flatness goes away.
