What modifications can be done to make a Mazda RX-8 start in the winter?
What causes the car not to start in winter usually is that you can not crank it then shut if off immediatly. This car has a rotory motor. In the winter the ecm tells it to send more fuel so the car will crank. If u cut the engine off before the car is at normal operating temp the engine is still full of fuel, it fouls out the spark plugs and the next time u go to crank the car it will not crank. So never turn the car off when the engine is cold. For instance dont go crank the car back it out of drive to let someone out and then just cut it off let it run till it is warm then cut it off. If u have done this there is a starting procedure that usually works, but not always. Press the accelerator to the floor and try to crank the car for one min. If it does not crank in one min let is sit a while then go back and reapeat the procedure until it cranks. Again, stopping and letting it sit after one min. Once the car cranks let it run till it is warm, and at normal operating temp. Cranking the car when its cold and cutting it off before its warm can seriously damage it and cost lots in repairs. Never i repeat never do this. Always, make sure the car is warm before u cut it off.
What could cause power to come and go when driving in an rx8?
Check/change the spark plugs first. (4 NGK iridium plugs, about 25 dollars a plug)
Plug wires next.
Coils after that. (stock coils fail when spark plugs foul)
If the issue is not resolved by the ignition fixes, get a compression check from a rotary knowledgeable mechanic.
How hard is it to change ignition coils in a Mazda rx 8?
not too hard..you can remove your intake system and look where the spark plug wires meet at the top and the coils are what the wire run into ...but id do them one at a time so your plug wires dont get mixed up on the coils..could do some damage
How do you fix a vapor lock on a 2004 Mazda rx8?
The same way as with almost any car: hold the "gas" pedal all the way to the floor for 10 seconds while cranking the engine, then release the pedal and start it normally. (Source: owner's manual)
Or, you could trade it for a newer one that doesn't have this problem.
How do you replace rear brakes 2004 Mazda rx8?
Remove the caliper, 2 bolts, then the bracket bolts, 2 bolts. Thread an 8.8M screw into the rotor and keep screwing it in until the rotor pops off. If you don't have such a screw handy, you can bang on the rotor with a hammer (although this process is much more aggressive in nature and it is possible to damage a wheel bearing while banging away at the rotor).
I've posted some videos to help illustrate the process:

You park the Mazda Rx-8 2004 and after dat it wont start?
You need to warm up the engine until the guage reaches halfway. Otherwise, you will flood the engine and it will not start. There are many links on the Internet on how to get it to restart, but I've had no luck. The dealer fixed it for free. By the way, the less it warms up, the worse it is! Do not start your engine and then just shut it off. It will not restart! ALWAYS warm it up before shutting it off.
I have a 2004 Mazda rx8.Why when pressing gas pedal does the reaction feel delayed?
that could be something to where its not getting enough fuel or its flooding it ,, are you pressing it to the floor and getting nothing? is it a manual? to many things to consider
Why does the Mazda RX8 flood when you shut it off?
The Mazda RX-8 tends to flood at cold temperatures or when the optimal temperature has not been reached. The reason is because the extra fuel washes away the oil on the rotor seals causing a drop in compression while the fuel injection system is still spraying even more fuel.
Flooring the accelerator shuts the fuel supply off.
****Actually the car will flood if it is not run long enough to get to normal operating temperature regardless of outside temperatures. In order to avoid this very expensive trip to the dealer you can run the RPM gauge up to 6000 for 5 seconds and shut the engine off (while it is still running at 6000 rpm.) Always let the car warm up and then run it at over 3000 RPM for a minute before turning it off.
Don't start the car, move three feet and turn it off.
Also:
See your local Mazda dealer if the car is flooding.
There are new engine management ECU flashes available to correct flooding.
You also may need a new engine, the engine warranty was extended to 100K miles by Mazda for most RX8s, have the dealer check your engine vacuum and compression to see if you need a new motor.
I have a 06 RX8 and I pay around 180 a month. That's with a couple of speeding tickets and its different depending on your age and gender.
1. Don't use synthetic engine oils, they don't burn clean. I recommend Mobil 1 5W-20. I repeat, DO NOT use synthetic motor oil.
2. Let the engine warm up before you take it out.
3. Rev the car to 9000RPM at least once every outing.
4. Check motor oil levels every other fill up at he pump.
5. Let the engine "cooldown" before shutting it off.
6. Don't use the car for 2 minutes and turn it off, you risk engine flooding. At least redline it a few times before shutting it off.
7. Take the car in for proper maintenance every once in a while.
8. Do annual oil changes.
9. Make sure the car has adequate oil at all times.
Rx8 bad engine vibration at 6000 revs?
Typically with the Mazda RX8 Rotary engine vibration at revs as high as 6000 is down to engine damage suffered when oil was low. Your engine requires rebuild or renewal.
Vibration at idle only is typically engine mounts, a know fault many dealers are aware of.
What type of oil do you use for a 2004 Mazda rx8?
Use 5w20 engine oil in any brand doesn't matter. Don't go thinner than that because you will burn a lot of oil.
One guy told me he uses 5w30 because its a little thicker and won't burn as much. I also read on the Internet (so it must be true) that in countries other than the US, Mazda allows 5w30 for warrantly coverage.
Apply 12 volts directly to the fan from the battery. If the fan works fine in that manner, then you have a blown fuse or defective thermal sensor. If the car has A/C and only one fan, then just turn on the ignition, and then turn on the A/C. The fan runs continuously when the A/C is on. If it is running, then the motor is good.
Where is the power steering on a 2006 RX8?
The power steering on the RX-8 is electric, the rack itself is in the normal place, then there is a torque sensor where the steering column enters the rack and the ECU for it is located under the main car ECU.
There is a common fault where the coolant overflow dribbles over the connector to the rack and causes corrosion, this should be the first point of investigation if there is an issue.
How do you reset the clock on a 2004 Mazda RX-8?
hold down the clk button till it beeps it will flash hour . then press the clk button again and the hour should change. for the min repeat process but press the clk button a second time to get to the mins.
What are the biggest rims you can put on a 2007 Mazda RX-8?
i have 20'' on mine, but unless you have new shocks, your going to need to place lifters. because I cant sit anyone in the back. because the tire rubs... so go with 19'' if you use 20'' you won be able to have any pasengers like me.
Where is the ecu on a Mazda rx8?
Passenger side, under the hood, beside the radiator reservoir.
You will see a black plastic cover about 6 inches wide by about a foot long, with three small bolts holding it down.
The ECU is under that.
What is the problem when you can't get no firing to a 2004 Mazda rx8?
That question has far too many answers. There are four spark plugs. They are designated as "lead" or "trailing". This requires two different kinds of plugs. (I use NGK Iridium plugs). Each plug has its own ignition coil. The spark plug wires, the coils and the plugs are the place to start. The wiring connectors to the coils become brittle and are prone to breakage when removed carelessly. Never pull directly on the wires! Try cleaning the connectors with carburetor cleaner spray and a soft brush or cloth before carefully disconnecting the coils. The engine is prone to flooding, and a wet plug will not fire. The ECU (computer) is something else to consider, as is making sure that the crankshaft sensor on the drivers side of the engine by the crankshaft pulley is clean and the wires are intact, as this is where the firing signals originate. There is alot of good information to be found in researching Mazda RX8 sites, there is also alot of bunk. Pony up the dough to buy yourself a Clymer's or Chilton's manual and use common sense. Designed by engineers, assembled by idiots. Take your time, do your homework. Vice-Grip pliers, a big flathead screwdriver and a hammer are seldom the proper tools for repairing today's automobiles.
Rx8 sat for a few days without being crunk now it wont crank is there a reset?
Turn the key to the ACC position.
Fully depress the gas pedal.
Crank the engine for 10 seconds with gas pedal still depressed.
IF IT STARTS LET OFF THE GAS
If not, turn the key to the OFF position.
Try and start your car.
If that doesn't work than you need to take your car in to a Mazda dealership.
Can you use normal unleaded petrol in a Mazda rx8?
Actually, I am using the Unleaded 95 for my Rx 8 (1.3 192CH) 2008. I hope that it's not bad for the RX8 ..
