How did Judaism develop in southwest Asia?

Judaism formed in Israel when Abraham formed a covenant with God.

Answer 2

By Abraham in the Middle East.
Tradition states that Abraham founded Judaism. The Kuzari (Rabbi Judah HaLevi, 1075-1141) states that Abraham was gifted with high intelligence; and, as Maimonides (1135-1204) describes, Abraham didn't blindly accept the ubiquitous idolatry. The whole populace had been duped, but the young Abraham contemplated the matter relentlessly, finally arriving at the conclusion that there is One God and that this should be taught to others as well. This is what is meant by his "calling out in the name of the Lord" (Genesis ch.12). As a young man, he remonstrated with passersby in public, demonstrating to them the falsehood of their idols; and our tradition tells how he was threatened and endangered by Nimrod.
Subsequently, Terah relocated to Harran; and it is here that Abraham began to develop a circle of disciples (Rashi commentary, on Genesis 12:5). Later, God told Abraham in prophecy to move to the Holy Land, which is where he raised his family. He continued his contemplations, eventually arriving at the attitudes and forms of behavior which God later incorporated into the Torah given to Moses.
Moses achieved the highest level of prophecy (Deuteronomy ch.34) and was called upon by God (Exodus ch.3). He brought the Israelites out of Egyptian slavery (Exodus ch.12). He received the Torah from God (Exodus 24:12) and later recorded it in writing (Deuteronomy 31:24).
All of the above places are in the ancient Fertile Crescent.

What year did the UN divide Palestine into a jewish state and an Arab state?

The Answer you are looking for is "the United Nations Partition Plan for the Mandate of Palestine".

However, there are two minor errors in the phrasing of this question. The first is semantic: the UN Partition Plan came out of UNGA Resolution 181 which was passed on November 29, 1947, not 1948. Israel declare independence according to the provisions of UNGA Resolution 181 on May 14, 1948, but that was not when the "division" occurred.

The second error is that Palestine was not actively divided. The UN took a map and made a prescriptive judgment about where a Jewish State should be and where an Arab State should be. It would have been binding had both sides agreed, but the Arabs were not interested in allowing for any Jewish State and therefore prevented an agreement from being realized. Therefore, Palestine was not actually divided physically, just potentially. Israel used this window of permissibility to declare statehood in 1948 and Palestine used this to declare statehood in 1988.

What is the difference between the Middle East and Arabia?

Why have cities in the middle east been important historically?

n culture was able to conquer and to dominate the rest of the world because its geographical and ecological advantages meant more and better food. This led to the development of dense populations earlier than in other locations. Dense populations were necessary to produce complex levels of technology and political organization. Over millennia, the Eurasians developed lethal communicable diseases as well as partial immunity to these diseases. When Eurasians went to other parts of the world, they brought all these advantages with them. When small pox, measles, typhus, etc., were introduced to people without immunity, populations were decimated and social structures weakened, often many years before these people had any actual face to face interactions with the Eurasians. When those interactions did take place, the superiority of technology and organization used by the Eurasians finished the job of conquest.

Why is it hard to identify the boundaries of the MIddle East?

Answer 1
it is hard to identify the boundary of the middle east because a region is identified by its characteristics . The middle east is mostly dry and full of deserts but it has an interrupted circle of water around it which would disclude Cyprus, Sudan and Afghanistan which were always thought to be middle Eastern country's.

Answer 2
The Middle East is as much a cultural term as a strict geographic term. As a result, depending on which countries a person wishes to include in an analysis of the Middle East, some countries may be added or removed. There are additionally no clear edges of the Middle East since most mountains or water boundaries have more "Middle Eastern Territory" on the other side. This is as opposed to, say, the border between North and South America that clearly passes through the center of the Panama Canal.

Why was solomons temple important to the Middle East?

What are three main rivers of the middle east?

This is according to Atlas.com:

Dozens of rivers are found in the Middle East (Asia). Most are small, so here we highlight the four major ones, and offer a brief description.

Amu Darya:

This river flows from a high plateau in the Pamir Mtns. of central Asia, across southern Tajikistan, forming its border with Afghanistan, then northwest, forming parts of the borders between Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan and on into the Aral Sea. It's (1,578 miles) (2,539 km) in length. In ancient times the Amu Darya was called the Oxus. It was part of Persia, and played a significant role in the military campaigns of Alexander the Great.

Euphrates:

From the Caucasus Mtns of Armenia, it flows southwesterly across east-central Turkey, then generally southeast through Syria and Iraq, ending in the waters of the Persian Gulf. It joins with the Tigris in southern Iraq, and from that junction continues on as the Shatt al Arab. Overall it's (2,235 miles) (3,596 km) in length, and is certainly the longest river in the Middle East. Historically important in ancient history, the once great city of Babylon stood on its banks.

Indus:

It begins in the high mountains of Tibet (southwestern China), flowing northwest through the Jammu & Kashmir region of India and Pakistan, then generally south through Pakistan, ending in the Arabian Sea. The Indus, through a series of dams and canals, provides much of the irrigation and power for central Pakistan. It's (1,800 miles) (2,896 km) in length.

Tigris:

Rising in the mountains of southern Turkey, the Tigris flows southeast through Iraq, where in the southern part of that country it merges with the Euphrates to become the Shatt al Arab, which then flows to the Persian Gulf. The river has numerous small tributaries running from its eastern bank, and is (1,180 miles) (1,899 km) in length.

What two groups are in conflict with the middle east?

If I understood the question right, the answer is full of history. I will start with the current situation.

The most major claims of land ownership here are made by the Israelis (and many Jews support that. I'd even say most Jews do (some groups are known to go against this "fashion", if you may)), who have inhabited Israel for fifty-four years (ever since announced), and the Palestinians, who have been the inhabitants of Palestine (Israel before the announcement).

Now, if you get down to the history, you'll see that it is not so easy to say who rightfully owns the land, nor what is the specific land, nor how to end the conflict, nor an infinitesimal number of other related questions.

So, we kick off with the Bible, particularly Abraham. He was promised by G-d the land, along with giving birth to a major nation, or people, depends on your translation. The promise is reminded to Abraham after then, with altered wording: instead of "people", "peoples" in plural.

And so, since Sara is barren, she let Hagar bear Abraham's child, Yishma'el (meaning: either "G-d will hear" or more likely "G-d has heard").

As you might know, the second father in NOT Yishma'el, but Yitzhak, who was born sixteen years later by good old (ninety year old) barren Sara. Then there is some still-debated subject about reason (extreme cases are: 1. Yishma'el harassed someone, maybe Yitzhak, so Sara went beserk 2. Law was of unjustified killing of Yishma'el and Hagar, and Sara did a kind thing), but Sara sent them on their way.

At that point, G-d tells Abraham not to feel bad (it could range from being sorry Yishma'el left to being enraged Yitzhak was harassed, through countless emotions), and that Yishma'el will be the father of a great nation as well, because he was of Abraham. Those people are the Arabs, and the Islamic religion too. To understand better, read it. Hebrew recommended, since every translation is faulty to some degree.

Skipping forward to non-religious history, believed to be saner by many people. Jews are scattered all over the world, and they were like this for at least a millennium and a half. We're in the early 1900s-1910s. Theodor Hertzl, the Jew State foreseer, is dead, and Jews have already started immigrating into Palestine. Jews have been here before, but they were not so many. Not anymore, though. They bought lands and multiplied by four in the last three decades.

Meanwhile, the Jewish Congress works on politically acquiring the land.

Skipping forth to 1948. The British have decided to give two separate parties the land, with a geographical arrangement of ownership as odd as it gets: the land is divided not in half, nor in any continual shape, but a bunch of curvy lines with far more than two lands, a few owned by each, none of the lands connecting to one-another. (It probably is because of the important places to each of the two)

Jews are somewhat let-down, but they do get their land. Palestinians (the people, mostly Arabs, who had owned the land up until now) are unhappy, to say the least. They try conquering, but the result of this war, named by Israelis "the Independence War", is horrific to the attackers. To the joy of the newborn Israel, most lands are part of it through conquest.

Those are the essentials of the struggle.

Please note, one of the places both of the religions above, along with Christianity, consider a great asset and wouldn't mind to occupy, putting it mildly, is Jerusanlem. Because of this ancient city, the wars aren't likely to simply end, especially with no outsider intervention. Hertzl actually foresaw even that. He wished for Jerusalem to be a state of it's own, full of art and science, enlightening the whole world, unowned by a government, state, or country.

I urge anyone wishing to know more, to study this matter throughly.

*All information is genuine, especially the Biblic explanation, which was taught to me in the original language, by a learned Jewish teacher, while reading the original text, and understanding it. (Yes, I speak and read Hebrew at a very high level)
