You need special tools to remove broken keys, but they are simple to make. Find a couple pieces of steel about the size of a spoke from a motorcycle wheel. Then with a bench grinder, grind both sides of one end until it's fairly flat and small enough to fit in the key slot. Next grind a notch in the side to make a hook on the end of your tool. It's usually best to make 2 hooks, or you might need one with just a sharp point on the end. Experiment to figure out what you need, and then make it. I've removed several broke keys over the years, and this is what has always worked for me.

I changed the whole ignition in a 93 colt. I got the replacement from a lancer!The ignition wraps round the steering column and is bolted with sheer away bolts. The bolts are designed to break when originaly tightend (Antitheft). you will have to use a hacksaw blade to cut slits in the top of the bolts that are on the suspect ignition. when slits are deep enough, use a flathead screwdriver to remove them. You will have to get new bolts from your Mitsubishi dealer. when its off the ignition switch is held by a Philips screw, remove and continue with putting the replacement ignition on!

ecm stands for electronic control module

Generally you need to change timing belt around 60-70K miles. Timing belt change cost around $400-450.

buddy: this kind of cars/engine use a cam shaft sensor and crank shaft sensor that mean the computer send the signal for the spark. and don't use an rotor/ cap, coil and you can not fix the timing. i hope this help.

I own a 1996 Mirage and my fuses are right under the steering wheel, like right under but kinda near the door. u pretty much have to lay on the floor to see them, if u have a users manual it will tell u what fuses are what.

The TCM is a black box about 4 inches square, an inch or so thick located far forward under the center console. Remove the shift lever cover, under it are 2 controllers. the first is an airbag control module, it's smaller and right under the cup holder. Forward of the airbag control module and lower is the TCM, it's easier to see looking at it from the sides.

The 2000 Mitsubishi IAT sensor can be found on the right side of the engine. The sensor will be just below the head deck.

5 btdc or 10 standard btdc if you distribuidor not rotate

It is integrated with the MAF sensor.

when your driving on a really hot sunny day if you look in front of you - you can see what will look like water puddles but they dissappear as you get closer this is mirage

hard to find the tach signal wire due to the fact that the ignition coils are built into the distributor (old cars always easy to work on) to get the right wire l have posted a page on how to install a tach to your Mitsubishi. go to www.sureyya.biz and click on Mitsubishi tacho install.

1. Loosen the idler pullery bracket adjustment and pivot bolts. 2. Position a suitable belt tension gauge. 3. Install a 1/2 in. breaker bar in the hole in the idler pulley bracket. Apply tension to the belt using the breaker bar. 4. Set the tension on a new belt to 170 lbs or a used belt to 140lbs. While maintaining the tension, tighten the adjustment bolt to 30ft. lbs 5. Remove the belt tension gauge and the breaker bar. Start the engine and let it idle for 5 minutes. 6. Shut the engine off, then reinstall the belt tension gauge and breaker bar. Apply tension with the breaker bar and slowly loosen the adjustment bolt to allow belt tension to increase to the used belt specification, 140 ft. lbs. Tighten the adjustment bolt to 30 ft. lbs. 7. Tighten the pivot bolt to 50ft. lbs.

Follow the top radiator hose back to the engine block. The thermostat is usually behind the housing that connects the radiator hose to the engine block. To be more specific Its on a housing on the passenger side of the engine block.

The oil used in a 1999 Mitsubishi mirage is 5W-30. When engine the engine reach more than 150,000 miles switch to partial synthetic will help the life of the engine.

The horn has a relay, fuse and switch on the circuit. The switch is the middle of the steering wheel that you depress. A common failure with these mitsu's is the horn switch. there is a membrane between to copper plates that when it fails, it causes your horn to go off non stop. If you take your airbag off with the two torque screws behind the steering wheel you can take the airbag and horn switch assembly out. Once you have the switch out you can seperate the two copper plates and slap a piece of duct tape on the outside edges to keep the plates off eachother. then reassemble.

A word of caution: your are handling the air bag while applying this fix. Make sure you disconnect the Battery for an hour before you touch anything and never go near power during this process. i DO NOT RECOMEND YOU TO DO THIS UNLESS YOU UNDERSTAND THE RISKS.

I just did it today with an 11/16 th socket and it fit perfect.

When you go to buy a filter at your local Auto Parts store they can tell you the correct size filter. To find the capacity, park the car on a level surface. Drain the oil and change the filter. Add 4 quarts of the correct weight oil. Start the engine and let run for 1 minute. Shut off and wait 30 minutes. Check the oil level and add as necessary to reach the full mark on the dip stick. You now know the capacity.

connect a diagnotic scanner (snap-on), then clear the srs code. unless, there is a problem with the airbag this will work
