What was lady's Jane Grey claime to the throne?

Lady Jane Grey, known as the Nine Days Queen (1537 - 1554) and a descendant of Henry VII, was pushed forward as queen after the death of Edward VI, the only son of Henry VIII. In fact the next in line for succession was Mary I, Henry's oldest daughter and a staunch Roman Catholic. Lady Jane's father in law, the powerful Protestant Duke of Northumberland, was the chief architect of this power play. Jane was proclaimed queen four days after Edward's death in 1553, but Jane had just nine days as a queen, and support for Mary I as the rightful heir to the throne saw Jane and the rebels behind her, arrested and imprisoned. Mary was proclaimed queen, and six months later in 1554, Jane was beheaded for treason, along with her husband, Guildford Dudley. Jane was only a young girl, and was used as a pawn in this attempt to take the throne from Mary I.

What religion did William the Conqueror believe in?

Yes Duke William of Normandy and 1 of England was very religious by the standards of the time that is he built an abbey after his success in the battle of Hastings to which he carried a pennant given by the Pope as a blessing. The Abbey is called Battle and is still in use. He also built a lot of churches and cathedrals as at Caen and made sure to be crowned in Westminster Abbey which his cousin Edward had just finished building before he died. Nor did he usurp the authority of the Pope as his sucessors tried to: he was pretty busy anyway putting up castles like the Tower of London to fortify his position and parcelling out land as baronies to Normans as well as quelling a couple of rebellions and supervising the Domesday book to check how much land or livestock the people had as assets he could tax them on. All this and commuting to Normandy did not leave him much time for sin though it is said he asked forgiveness on his deathbed which was in his duchy and he was buried in Rouen cathedral.

Was King George III a hero?

NO! King George III was not a HERO. He acted horribly to the Virginians. Whatever the Virginians made, like crops, food, anything like that, King George would make them sell it to the British for a really really low price. So it's like they do the work for nothing. The answer to this question depends upon your point of view. To the American colonists he was not, because of some of the reasons above but also because he imposed harsh taxes and laws upon the colonists. To the British he was a hero, because he attempted to keep the American colonies within the British Empire. He also fought France in Europe. France was a long time enemy of the British, so any King that fought the French would be a hero to the British. One last try...This is a question that calls for an opinion not a fact; therefore it cannot be answered. To most Colonials was not a hero. Just read the Declaration of Independence to see what Congress thought of him. It is spelled out prett explicitly in a laundry list of gripes they had with George. Never the less, many other colonists who remained loyal to the king thought of him as a hero as they fought to remain British subjects. They liked him so much that when the war ended many of them packed up and went to Canada. There is actually a community of people descended from loyalist colonials in Canada who celebrate their British heritage. On the other hand, many British subjects disliked him intensely because the war was expensive and the King was taxing the fish and chips out of them to pay for it and losing the war in the bargain. Some hero. My opinion: Not a hero. Case closed.

What was King George III importance in the revolutionary war?

King george was not an heir but he was appointed as king of England after Queen Anne died without an heir. George did not even like England and did not speak any enhlish in that matter he spoke German. And because of this he proposed the idea of Salutary Neglect that was basically to leave the new colonies in America alone and not to be controlled by England. which then developed the War of inependence by the colonies and England, Great Britain...

What happened to the religion during the Tudor times?

The religion changed a lot of times between The Roman Catholics and Protestants. Protestants are a christian religion in which the designs are much more simpler and also the prayer book was English ( they were poorer ). The Catholic religion was a christian religion in which the design were much more extravagant and there was huge decorations in the churches and monasteries, also the prayer book was in Latin ( they were richer )

During the reign of Henry VII he was a Catholic but then decided to become Protestant. When Henry VII died, the next in line for the thrown was his only son Edward VI, (MOTHER- JANE SEYMOUR) Edward then became king at the age of 9 and was brought up as a protestant. At the time the Churches were all in the design of the Roman Catholic religion which were much more extravagant, as i explained earlier. Edward then decided to change the churches from Catholic into Protestant as he was brought up strongly by his parents.

When Edward VI died at the age of 15, next in line for the thrown was his sister Mary I (bloody Mary) (MOTHER- CATHERINE OF ARAGON) Mary was a very strong Catholic and ignored what religion her parents and brother was. She changed all of the churches back into Catholics.

When Mary I died after a small reign as Queen, to fill her place was her other sister Elizabeth I (MOTHER- ANNE BOLEYN). Elizabeth I was a Protestant the same as her brother and parents, Because at that time the churches were all Catholic and she was Protestant she didn't think that it would be fair to take the Catholic religion away form the people and turn it back into Protestant practices, so she then at the decision to make to turn the practices back into Protestant or to leave them as Catholic.

She then decided to split them so the people, of the different religions could choose to become Protestant or Catholic. Everyone was happy as their religion was very important to them :)

Did Charles the first deserve to be executed?

No one really DESERVES to die. But Charles I was executed for the following reasons;

  • Ignored the will of Parliament
  • Disloyal
  • Impulsive
  • Imposed unnecessary ship money (tax)
  • Created conflict between his country
  • Responsible for all of the murders, rapings and burning of houses.

There are several other reasons- but I'm not going to do your homework!

Some may argue that Charles I should have been imprisoned- which is foolish, because Charles I was imprisoned during the first Civil War, but escaped within a few days. If he did it once, he could do it again.
