What were Joseph Smith's occupations?

Joseph Smith, Jr. lived with his family on his farm, and spent much of his childhood and teen years participating in farm life - planting crops, taking care of animals, and maintaining the property. In his later teens and early twenties, he got jobs outside of his family farm in order to help his family financially. These jobs included working as a farm hand and working as a commissioned 'treasure digger' for a man convinced there was gold and treasure buried in New England. Later in life, after he was married and had organized the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he operated a mercantile store and a hotel, although most of his goods and services were donated.

What were Brigham Young's last words?

How big is temple square in Salt Lake?

Temple Square proper is only one block - ten acres. (Temple Square proper is the part with the wall around it that contains the Temple, the Assembly Hall, the Tabernacle, and two visitor centers)

However, when people refer to Temple Square today, they typically mean the entire Church headquarters complex, which includes five (ten acres each) blocks surrounding Temple Square as well. These other blocks contain the Conference Center, the Church Museum of History and Art, the Genealogy Library, the Church History Library, the Relief Society Building, the Church Office Building, the Church Administration Building, the Joseph Smith Memorial Building, the Lion House, and the Beehive House, as well as gardens and fountains.

What are mormons main beliefs?

The best way to find out is to ask a member, one of our missionaries, or go mormon.org. I can give you a few answers here. 1. We are Christians believing and worshiping in God the Eternal Father, and His son Jesus Christ. 2. We believe or use as scripture The King James version of the Bible. The Book of Mormon, and The Doctrine and Covenants. I am sure you are familiar with The Bible. We also use the Book of Mormon, Which is another testament of Jesus Christ. Just as the Bible tells the History of the Jews in the old world, The Book of Mormon tells of an off shoot of the house of Israel led to the new world by the hand of God. It tells of their history and dealings with God. The doctrine and covenants deals with modern day revelation and establishes the laws of the church. 3.We Follow a living Prophet and believe in revelation. The current Prophet today is Gordon B. Hinckley. 4. we believe in faith, repentance and baptism for the remission of sins. 5. There is no paid clergy, its all volunteer. 6. We have 13 articles of faith that out line the basics of what we believe. you can find more answers at mormon.org,and lds.org. look in the telephone book and call our missionaries or the local ward. There are to many to list but you can find the answers where I showed you. You are welcome to visit one of our churches any time you want. Just come on in that way you'll see we don't eat little kids and all that. lollollol sorry little joke very little have a great day First we believe that Heavenly Father is Just that the father of our spirit. Like any father he (Heavenly Father) wants the best for us and being his children we have the potential to be like him. Perfected Mothers and Fathers rearing children and implementing the same plan that God the Father has here. This is all dependent on our worthiness. So not every member of The Church of Jesus Christ will obtain this opportunity and People who are not members will reach this goal by living worthy lives during this test. Women are not dependent on their mates to obtain perfection it is very much the other way around. This is very deep doctrine for our faith. however let pose this simple question. If God loves us and set up the plan of salvation, If the scriptures say we are his children and we are, and we as mortal beings we try to give our children better than we have it, what would a loving Father who is perfect want for his children? what kind of happiness does he have? In Mormonism, Kolob is a star or planet mentioned in the Book of Abraham as being nearest to the throne of God. The literal existence and the exact nature of Kolob is a controversial topic in Mormon theology, as is the Book of Abraham. However, the idea of Kolob has had an influence in Mormon theology and culture, particularly within The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

In the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Kolob is the place where God lives. there's a hymn in our hymnbook called "If you could hie to Kolob", which means "if you could go to the place where God lives"... so Kolob is otherwise known as the highest degree of heaven.

How much of wells Fargo is owned by Mormons?

No. John Stumpf, chairman, of Well Fargo is German Catholic. He said this in interview

Mormon is a religion... people are Mormons, banks are not.

Wells Fargo is a publicly traded company, so the shareholders own it. Some of these shareholders might be members of the Mormon church, but the Mormon church does not own any shares in it.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the "Mormon" church) does not own or operate any banks.

Do you have to Mormon to attend BYU and not be an athletes?

No. Although BYU is a university run by the Church Educational System (educational arm of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints aka Mormons) you do not have to be a church member to attend. The greater percentage of the students are LDS, however it is not required to be Mormon to play sports there. Important to note however, is that tuition is more expensive for non-members. This is because the church uses Tithing money of church members to subsidize the cost of tuition for other church members. The affordability of the church schools is a major reason they are so attractive, however prospective students should be aware that adherence to the strict "honor code" is required for eligibility on and off campus throughout a students entire enrollment period.

What is the goal of Mormons?

The official Mormon website details the belief that your life has a 'divine purpose' and that God has a tremendous plan, beyond human comprehension, for every individual (His 'children'). Your physical time on earth allows you to develop a personality, to learn and grow better into the image of God, and to recognise and use your free will to choose between good and evil. Mormons believe that your life experience will ultimately lead to greater joy and peace if you follow as His plan intended.

What are the four things one does to become a Mormon?

To become a Mormon, all you need to do is hear the Church's 'basic discussions'.

These are normally taught by missionaries of the Church.

If you like what you hear and believe you are gaining a 'testimony' of the message taught, you may ask to be baptized a member of the Church. Baptism is based on your personal readiness and when you feel comfortable making the commitment. The process can take as little as a few weeks or even several years if you are very unsure about your bel;ief for some time. Our experience is that most take only weeks once they are keen to join; it is entirely up to you.

The only prerequisite you should set for yourself should basically hinge around a personal desire to want to become like Jesus ... and that is the simple essence.

If you develop faith in Jesus Christ and want to change your life accordingly, you are ready to join the Church.

The missionaries or the local Church will help you with the rest. You can visit the Mormon website for more information.

Why were the Mormons important to westward expansion?

One way is by settling Utah. When LDS (Mormon) people first moved out there, it was actually considered outside of the US. Western territories could be brought into the US much more easily if there were US citizens living in the territories.

Also, many members settled California. When gold was discovered, LDS people were found to be generally loyal workers, not abandoning their employers to dig for gold. Also, as more people moved westward, they were able to restock with supplies obtained from already established communities in the Utah area.

What country capital is moroni?

None. Moroni is a small town in central Utah with approximately 1,500 residents. There is no state capital called Moroni.

What do Mormons believe about prayer?

Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the "Mormon" church) believe that prayer is the way in which we communicate with God, our heavenly Father. Mormons are encouraged and expected to develop a personal relationship with God through prayer. It is believed that when we ask God for something in prayer, He will answer. Mormons are encouraged to pray for faith and understanding as well as for the temporal needs of themselves and others. They are also encouraged to give prayers of thanks and praise for the gifts and blessings of God.

Prayer is addressed to God the Father, often called "Heavenly Father". It is always closed in the name of Jesus Christ, followed by 'amen'.

Mormons believe that prayer can take place anytime, anywhere. Mormons usually pray several times a day, both alone and in groups. Most Mormon families hold family prayer morning and night and before meals. Typically, Mormons pray while sitting or kneeling, but this is not required. Prayers can be said out loud or silently.

Mormons do not believe in giving rote or recited prayers. Prayers are to be personal communication, not recitations. The only rote prayers are in cases of ordinances, such as sacrament and baptism, otherwise, prayers are not read or recited.

Why is Polygamy is a crime?

In most nations, polygamy is illegal. Polygamy is only legally accepted in a handful of African, Middle Eastern, and Asian nations.

Answer:

Many forms of marriage are not usual (and technically illegal) in western culture such as polygamy and polyamoory, however as the status hurts no one the law is rather unwilling to step into smoothly functioning families. Why are Mormons such good singers?

Well, I wouldn't say that all members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the "Mormon" church) sing a lot. Some of them hate singing and rarely do so! Many Church members do love music and singing though, and each one has their own reasons. Some like it because it is easier to express their feelings and faith through music. Others like it because positive music very easily lifts the mood and lightens the mind. There is a verse scripture in the Doctrine and Covenants that says "My soul delighteth in the song of the heart; yea, the song of the righteous is a prayer unto me." (D&C 25:12) Because of this, many Mormons sing as a form of worship and prayer, rather than just for fun.

Is it okay if your Mormon teenage son wears a thong under his boxer because they feel good?

While the behavior of your son is between he and you, there are obviously guidelines, rules, preferences, etc. that various differing faiths have.

You specifically referenced him as a "Mormon", or what is actually a "Latter Day Saint". I believe the Bishop of your Ward would be the man to ask for the church's specific stance on that.

What was Joseph Smith's personality like?

By the reports of some who knew Joseph Smith, they stated he was a kind man, always seeking friends - whether they were supportive or against him. There have been stories passed on that even if someone physically beat him, he would still invite them to his home for dinner. He was a loving, forgiving person of people. He would not hold people's problems against them. He could be stern at times if he felt like it would help get a point across but would always be laughing and joking with those after he got his point across. He was a family man and was always concerned about his family's well being. He cared enough for his people that he would die for them if it meant they would be spared and ultimately did.

The reports of others who knew Joseph Smith, however, show his personality in a different light. He pressured married women as well as teenaged girls to be sealed to him in plural marriage for time and eternity, even though the idea shocked them. He and his brother William fought each other violently on occasion, at times resulting in serious injuries. He allowed (perhaps ordered?) a mob to destroy the printing press of his former First Counselor (in the First Presidency) since it was "a public nuisance" in Nauvoo. The nuisance? Exposing his practice of polygamy, something he'd been lying to the members about for several years.

Apparently, Joseph Smith was a complicated, conflicted, man.

Is the connection of Black people and Cain and Abel based in some kind of truth or merely a racist myth?

There is nothing in the Bible to suggest that skin color had anything to do with the mark God placed on Cain. That's a good question. Most of the scriptures just refer to what happened to Cain by saying that he was marked. The only thing that I can find that actually goes further is in Moses 7:22. It says "For the seed of Cain were black." Now, if you believe that the scriptures are infallible, then it is possible that was the mark that God put upon Cain... but it still doesn't mean *anything* about Black people being worse than anyone else. Cain was marked to separate him from the others... but that doesn't mean that is what we have to do. I don't suffer for what my hundred-times great grandfather did, and neither should anyone else. It is the same thing that is involved when people rage against the Jewish race. ... Should we condemn anyone, anywhere, for things that their ancestors did? Or should we take each person individually and treat them as human beings?
