Do LDS require 10 percent tithing to enter temple?

Church members must tell their Bishop and Stake President that they are paying a full 10% tithe to enter the temple. I guess they don't have to actually be paying it, but they'd have to lie to their Church leaders and say that they are.

In order to participate in temple worship services, a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the "Mormon" church) must meet the following requirements:

*Be a baptized member of the Church for at least several months (to perform baptisms for the dead) or one year (for all other ordinances)

*Males must be ordained as deacons (to perform baptisms for the dead) or elders (all other ordinances)

*Have reached age 12 (to perform baptisms for the dead) or adulthood (all other ordinances)

*Profess faith in God the Father, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost

*Profess faith in the Atonement of Jesus Christ and belief that He is Savior and Redeemer

*Believe that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the restoration of the true gospel

*Sustain the Prophet, First Presidency, Quorum of Twelve, and all regional and local leaders

*Live the law of chastity

*All family relationships in harmony with Church teachings

*Not supporting or affiliating with any group whose teachings or practices are in opposition to the Church

*Regularly attend Church meetings and keep covenants made previously

*Honesty

*Pay tithes (10% by the biblical definition)

*Keep the Word of Wisdom

Were the Mormons the 1st settlers in Oregon?

No. The first inhabitants of Oregon were indiginous Native American groups, including the Bannock, Chasta, Chinook, Kalapuya, Klamath, Molalla, Nez Perce, Takelma, and Umpqua.

The first permanent white settlement was in 1811 at Fort Astoria. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (commonly called the "Mormon" church) did not begin until 1830, and the first Mormons to set foot in Oregon did not arrive until 1887, when a group of Mormon businessmen arrived to set up a lumber mill. When this first group of Mormons arrived, there were already about 300,000 white people living in Oregon.

What is the difference between a stake and a district in the Mormon church?

In the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the "Mormon" church), stakes and districts are both organizational units made up of individual congregations (similar to a diocese in the Roman Catholic Church). The difference is that a stake is mostly made up of wards (large congregations) while a district is mostly made up of branches (small congregations).

Why do Mormons believe that the American continent is the new Jerusalem?

Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the "Mormon" church) believe that the New Jerusalem is not yet built. Zion, the New Jerusalem, is a city that will exist during the Millennial reign of Jesus Christ, after His Second Coming.

But yes, they do believe that the New Jerusalem will be built on the American Continent. In fact, one of their 13 Articles of Faith says, "We believe in the literal gathering of Israel and in the restoration of the Ten Tribes; that Zion (the New Jerusalem) will be built upon the American Continent; that Christ will reign personally upon the earth; and that the earth will be renewed and receive it's paradisiacal glory."

As for why they believe that, their belief is based on Biblical, Book of Mormon, and modern revelations. For example, Ether 13:3-12 in the Book of Mormon discusses the Second Coming, Gathering of Israel, and the New Jerusalem. It specifically says, "a New Jerusalem should be built upon this land", meaning the land of America. Revelations given to Joseph Smith and recorded in the Doctrine and Covenants give further information as to how Zion will be organized and where it will be built.

Who was the greatest mormon prophet?

I think that most members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the "Mormon" church) would agree that it is inappropriate to say that one prophet is greater than another, since they are all called by God to lead.

However, some mayfeel justified in saying that one is greater than another, and certainly most have a favorite or two.

Some may say that Joseph Smith was the greatest Mormon prophet. He organized the Church, was the first prophet of this dispensation, and is the only prophet thus far to die in defense of the Church.

Others may say that the current prophet is the greatest, because his teachings are meant specifically for us at this point in time.

Others might choose a prophet that lead for a long period of time or that is known for overseeing some major positive changes in the Church. For example, Brigham Young, Wilford Woodruff, David O. McKay, Spencer W. Kimball, and Gordon B. Hinckley.

Why is it hard to make Mormon friends In Saint George UT?

It can be difficult to make friends anywhere. This is just because people get comfortable with their current friends and don't really branch out looking to add more people to their circle. Making friends becomes even more difficult when you are an adult, since you don't go to school and tend to be very busy with household responsibilities, therefore your opportunities to meet new people are limited.

No matter what your religion or location is, this is probably the reason that it has been hard to make friends. There are many things that you can do to try to find new friends, and specifically to find Mormon friends in St. George:

First - get involved! Just going to school or work isn't enough. Join community groups that catch your interest. There are tons of different community groups in St. George, and Mormons are very involved in many of them. You could also join with local groups on social media sites such as Facebook.

Second - be friendly and outgoing. Perhaps people just don't realize that you are interested in being their friend. Make it a point to talk to your neighbors and have conversations with people you come in contact with.

Third - specifically if you want Mormon friends, get involved in church activities, even if you aren't a Mormon yourself. Mormons aren't trying to ignore outsiders, but often they are simply too busy to notice them, or they just assume that others aren't interested in them. However, once they realize that you are interested in being friends with them, they will be excited! (I promise) Kids could get involved with a scout troop or youth group hosted by a local congregation. Adults and families can attend activities and meetings of groups geared toward them. Or you could always visit a worship service and introduce yourself to the people sitting next to you. You could also try to meet with the Bishop of the local congregation. Even if you aren't a member of the church, he is still concerned about the people living within his congregation's boundaries. I would definitey suggest this if you feel that Mormons in your area are being particularly unfriendly.

May you enter the salt lake Utah morman tabernacle?

Yes. Every building on and around Temple Square is open for public tours daily, except for the Temple and the Church Administration Building.

The buildings that are open to the public are:

Tabernacle (which also hosts public concerts and events several days a week)

Conference Center

Assembly Hall

Relief Society Building

Joseph Smith Memorial Building

Church Office Building

North Visitors Center

South Visitors Center

Church History Library

Museum of Church History and Art

Family History Library

The Beehive House (Brigham Young's home)

The Lion House

The Temple is open only to practicing Mormons who have recieved a special reccomendation from their Bishop. For those interested, there is an accurate scale model and virtual tour of the Temple located in the South Visitors Center. The Temple is not open to the public both because of it's holy nature and because it is used six days a week for sacred worship services continuously from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m., which tours would interrupt.

The Administration Building contains the offices of the top international leaders of the Church. It contains only private offices and is therefore not open for tours.

Why did the court uphold the law against polygamy even though the mormon religion permitted marriage to more than one wife?

The Supreme Court made a law when a Mormon polygamist appealed the anti-polygamy law, saying that polygamy was his religious duty. The Supreme Court then made another law which says that religion cannot be used as an excuse to break the law. It doesn't matter if your religion is okay with polygamy, drug use, or anything else - it's still illegal.

FYI, The Anti-Bigamy Act was enacted in 1862 and reinforced by the Edmunds Act in 1882. The Reynolds v United States case (mentioned above) took place in 1878. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the "Mormon" church) outlawed polygamy in 1890.

If a guy you know in high school is Mormon does that mean his family practices polygamy?

Polygamy was practiced in Mormonism many years ago, but is not currently practiced by Mormons today. It is highly unlikely that the kid's family practices polygamy.

_______

While there is a possibility that "this guy"'s family practices polygamy, it is very unlikely. It is true that polygamy, the practice of having multiple wives, was once a part of Mormon tradition, times have changed a great deal since the religion was first founded. It was in 1890 that polygamy was officially rejected as a part of Mormonism, though some sects continue to practice it.

______

Additionally, no sects practice polygamy that are officially part of the church. If you were to practice polygamy now, you would be kicked out of the church... therefore, any "real" Mormon (member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints) would NOT be a polygamist, so your friend in high school almost certainly is not

the people of FLDS practice poligamy they are not Mormons though

Of course! Dentists don't generally advertise their religion though, it is just something you'll find out by talking to them. You are most likely to find a dentist that is not a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (commonly called the "Mormon" Church) closer to the downtown Salt Lake City area.
