One could write a dictionary about this; in fact, someone probably already has. Here are a few basic terms:

Piano - quiet

Mezzo-piano - medium quiet

Mezzo-forte - medium loud

Forte - loud

Staccato - short

Legato - smooth, like a singing voice

Tempo - the speed of the beat

Bar/measure - A segment of time determined by the time signature. Each bar has the same number of beats.

Key Signature - the number of sharps and flats in a piece

There are 5 lines in a staff. And there are notes in the staff, there are some in the spaces and there are some on the lines i would like to name them all with you.

The first i will talk about is the ones in the lines and the notes are called(bottom to top)

F A C E it looks like the word face but those are the note names how i remember is remembering face-F A C E.

The next is the notes on the lines they are called(bottom to top)

E G B D F now the way i remember it is the letter but into words in a sentence such as:

E very

G ood

B oy

D eserv OR D oes

F udge OR F ine

(Some girls in my class says it is offensive to them because they use the boys instead of them, so if you fell like its offensive to you then you can make up one your self.)

These are the most common notes used in a treble clef. I am glad i helped you with understanding the note names of the five lines in the treble clef!

How long will it take to get to grade 5 theory music im a bassist?

It depends how fast you work. I'm lazy and I procrastinate, and I do about 1 or 2 pages per week. I finish it in about 6 months with each book... Well it also depends on how long you've been learning your instrument for as well.

I've done Grade 1-5 piano, and I just whizzed past grade 3 theory without an exam, and I'm near the end of book 4... Yeah like I said depends on how long you've learnt your instrument. If you've started both at the same time with no musical influences, it would take a couple of years.

If theory has been something you've completely forgotten and have to do it in order to do grade 6, it depends how fast you can work through the theory books. Don't go straight to grade 5, because you would have missed quite a bit of foundation work. I started with grade 3, it was easy but it was noticeable that I've missed grade 1 and grade 2 of theory.

In UK if you don't take grade 5 music theory you cannot progress above grade 5 in practical so its a really important exam to take. I took mine while doing Music A level at college and had not real trouble apart from the aural test. We didnt study it specifically as most of it was part of the theory for A level Music. I believe that I took it about 4 months after starting the course.

What key signature has four sharps?

The key of E major and its relative minor, c sharp minor, both have four sharps. Additionally, key signatures apply to all music not just the piano and remain the same regardless of instrument. When referring to the piano the term "key" usually refers to on of the actual white or black keys that are pressed down to make a sound of the corresponding pitch. Each key on the piano is attached to a hammer that hits a string inside the instrument, thus the piano's classification as a percussion instrument. The strings are of different lengths and thicknesses, creating the different pitches. Each key on the piano is responsible for one pitch. Therefore a single key on the piano cannot "have four sharps", as you asked.

What scale degrees are altered in a melodic minor?
