Do you have to attend a college in Oxford to go to Oxford university?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

A 'college' in Oxford is a division of the University, rather than being an institution one would attend prior to attending the University.

They go hand in hand, not separately, so yes, you would have to be a member of an Oxford college (or Permanent Private Hall, which to all intents and purposes is the same as a college) to attend the University of Oxford. However, in applying to the University, you apply to a college, either of your choice or one allocated to you.

What are subject pass requirements to get into Oxford?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

I'm not specific in the GCSE requirements - but they will accept nothing less than AAA in A levels.

Good Luck...

Edit: You need to be predicted 3 A's at Alevels however they can be more lenient on some subjects but not things like medicine, law, history, English etc.

Some colleges require very very high gcse results such as Churchill but although all will take into account them many do not use it as a deciding factor on whether a student is right or not. However aim for as many A's and A*'s as possible especially in core subjects eg. English, Maths and whatever relates to your subject.
