It depends on the pest you are trying to eradicate or chase away. Diatomacious Earth is organic and very effective on ants, earwigs, and several other pests. Insecticidal soap is also organic and very effective on aphids and other soft bodied insects, yet safe enough to ingest (not recommended, but it won't kill you). Slugs can be kept at bay with plastic or metal collars around the stem of your plant. 4 inch long popsicle sticks embedded at least 1 inch deep right beside the stem of your plant (no space between) will prevent cutworms from cutting off the plant (the cutworm must be able to completely encircle the stem to cut it, the stick prevents this).

Beneficial insects are also effective. There are parasitic wasps which can be attracted to, and sometimes purchased for, your yard. They kill many insect pests. Lady bugs can be attracted to, or purchased for your yard to keep aphids (their favorite prey) at bay.

There are many more ways to avoid using pesticides. I personally found the book Gardener to Gardener Almanac & Pest Control Primer, Edited by Vicki Mattern and Fern Marshall Bradley, and published by Rodale Inc. to be very helpful with such matters. Its ISBN is 0-87596-864-3.

See if you can hire a professional steam cleaner - the superheated steam sterilize the carpet and therefore will kill the fleas, if the carpet is properly steamed all over. Note, if you have fleas in the carpet then there have been or are pets in the house, you need to wash the pet bedding regularly and make sure that you vacuum through the house at least twice a week (concentrating on where the pets are).

Squishing, spraying, starving, subjugating, and suffocating are ways to kill insects. Insects can be killed by flyswatters and gloved hands. They also may succumb to horticultural oils applied against their eggs, insecticidal soap and organic and synthetic treatments against their hatched and mature stages, predatory introductions of natural enemies, removal of their food sources, and suffocation in buckets of soapy water.

Honey bees play an important part in nature. Don't kill them off, instead contact your local Animal Shelter and ask if anyone can gather them up and take them off to a Bee Keeper. Or even put an ad in your paper offering free honey bees to anyone who will take them away. Most bee keepers love to do that as they need more bees especially a new colony of them.

Not really. The most effective way of getting rid of fleas is to use one of those once a month flea medications such as Frontline, Advantage or Advocate. The best, most effective brands can be bought from your vet. These are a once a month flea medication that will prevent fleas & ticks from getting on him or her for a month. You apply it topically. Combing the dog regularly will remove dead or dying fleas, and should be done until no more fleas can be seen. Washing the dog using a flea shampoo for dogs is also another method for helping getting rid of fleas. Never use human shampoo, detergent or any other products with strong chemicals in. They may kill the fleas, but will also irritate the dog's skin and will cause unnecessary discomfort.

You should talk to either your veterinarian (if you have pets) or a professional pest exterminator. Flea infestations can be very difficult to get rid of, as there are several life stages present and each life stage is susceptible to different chemicals.

Tough to answer without seeing it, but it's very likely it's incurred winter damage. If ALL the leaves are falling off, chances are it will not come back. *Some* dry cleaners will take feather-filled bedding *if* it is completely enclosed in a case (many feather ticks come with a large zipper covering that can be removed).

yes baking soda is safe, as is talcum powder or baby powder. Both substances are good home remedies for killing fleas on your pet ... the powders will smother the fleas. When applying either powder, apply to the animals head first, which will prevent fleas from running towards the head as the powder is applied elsewhere.

Yes it does but only on contact. Spray bleach on a roach and they die just as quickly as if you were using bug spray. You can also pour bleach down your drain since roaches like to live near a water source.

Field rats will eat plants and little small seeds when I used to live back in the country we would always hunt for them because they were pest but ya they will eat basically little seeds and stuff . Have a nice night and hope it helped .

There is a spray solution for the household that you can purchase at a vetenarians office - just explain what you would like. It is not expensive and works great - you do have to spray every room because if you only spray one room and hope it works your just shifting the fleas from one room to another and not getting rid of them.

You should fertilize a weeping cherry tree in early spring with a slow release fertilizer. The tree can be pruned at the same time.
