Is lime good for keeping snakes away?

l think lime is good for keeping snakes away.i use it every summer about two or three times.it works for me and i have noticed that if i don't put it down within the first month of full heat i always see a snake somewhere near by.i use to use mothballs but the smell was killing me.with mothballs it was difficult to enjoy my yard during the summer.with lime all you have to do is sprinkle a thin line all the way around the outside perimeter of your house and yard and you can relax until the next time it rains really hard.but yes lime does work for me and being that i am extremely scared of snakes ,i would have searched for something else a long time ago!

What is a way to control insect pests in your garden without spraying pesticides?

Back in the old country, we used stinging nettle. Put the nettle in a wooden barrel, and let it stay in the sun for about a week. Spray your plants with that water.

Use a cheap dish washing liquid, about 1 teaspoon to a gallon of lukewarm water. You can add a dash of hot pepper juice or cayenne pepper. Also add about 2 tablespoons of Listerine.

Jerry Baker's book on gardening pests also has a lot of information on friendly pest control.

You can also plant abundant, tiny flowers that provide nectar sources for gnat-sized parasitic wasps that lay their eggs in the eggs or bodies of insect pests. Thyme, alyssum, achillea (yarrow), and cilantro or dill that have been allowed to flower are good plants for attracting both parasitic wasps and bees to pollinate your vegetables. These insects help keep pest numbers from getting out of control.

Plant bunch grasses near your garden to provide habitat for ground beetles, which are voracious predators of snails, slugs, and crawling insects. Lacy foliage (dill, carrots, yarrow, etc.) provides habitat for predatory insects like lady bugs and spiders.

What is used to remove weeds?

Animals, controlled burns, hands, herbicides, pruners, shovels, and trowels are ways of removing weeds. Weeds can be displaced by excavating equipment, grazing animals, and persistent treatments of applied weedkillers, monitored fires, and severe trimming.

What is the best product to kill fleas?

Try Capstar pills. They work great and in a short period of time. I just got a dog from an animal shelter and they informed me that my dog (like so many strays) was flea infested. They gave him Capstar and that solved the problem. Its the only product they use.

Can hydrogen peroxide kill fleas on dogs?

Not particularly, hydrogen peroxide is fairly harmless at the common 3% concentration. It is used for inducing vomiting in dogs that have ingested poison. Pour it down the dog's throat and up it comes. It works on people, too. It might not be a good idea to use it on rats because they don't vomit. Some people use it for mouthwash. It doesn't taste very good so you shouldn't need to worry about your pet drinking it.

Higher concentrations of hydrogen peroxide, up around 30% or higher become dangerous by being a good oxidizing agent. Explosive decomposition could occur if a catalyst is introduced.

To get a feel for that, take a half cup of 3% peroxide, mix a few drops of dishwashing liquid then sprinkle some dry baking yeast into it...do it outside. The gas making the foam is oxygen.

What do you do to cure black spot on roses?

If you don't wish to purchase chemicals, try the following: make up a spray with either bicarbonate of soda, or a mixture of Chamomile, Chive, Elder, Horseradish and Casuarina leaves. Spray this regularly to prevent reinfestation. The tips below will also help prevent the fungus returning. * The air needs to be able to circulate around the rose bush. This keeps the humidity level down, reducing the likelihood of the fungus coming back. * To also allow for air circulation, prune the centre part of the rose so it's not too crowded. * Try to water at the base of the rose plant, rather than the leaves, especially if you're restricted to watering at the end of the day. This means the water won't remain on the leaves for a long time. * Completely remove infected leaves and put them in the rubbish bin, never the compost bin, or else the black spot will still spread. Don't leave the black-spot leaves lying on the ground.

Your dog ate moth balls?

Mothballs are poison and the dog needs to be treated immediately by a qualified vet. You can call your local poison control for immediate treatment but it does not substitute for Medical treatment. You can also call the ASPCA poison control for care instructions but there is a fee for contacting them.

How are herbicides harmful?

Depends on the insecticide and who is in contact with it. Small children and the elderly are most vulnerable.

There is considerable debate on this topic. History teaches us that as knowledge improves insecticides become more dangerous. Since there are organic solutions for just about every pest you can easily control them without risk from insecticides. Would you use something today only to find out later how dangerous it is? I did, and am now sorry for it. I used about the most dangerous insecticide available on the market, one that some groups try to get banned. My son ended up with Torrets Syndrome. I may never know if I caused it. But it has changed my sons life, and if I could do it again I would not use it!

The big advantage for farmers in making crops resistant to herbicides is that certain herbicides could then be used to remove all weeds in one go meaning less spraying. Normally herbicides would damage the crops as much as the weeds so its of huge benefit if they are resistant.

Will adding apple cider vinegar acv to a dogs drinking water kill ticks and fleas?

To answer your question, ACV has been used in repelling & killing ticks. I spray our yard with it to repel ticks, as they do not like the taste or smell. I also use about 1 teaspoon daily in my dogs water & even put some on a wet cloth and wipe him with it before he heads out in the yard. It has done wonders for keeping them at bay although you get that one or two but they are not attached so I would say Yes it works

[1] Natural bug sprays range from home remedies to organic controls. [2] Popular home remedies tend to involve basil, garlic, soap, or vinegar mixed in water. How can you repel bees?

The first thing I would try is Moth Balls. They are cheap and effective against alot of insects. *Be careful with the mothballs the fumes are hazardous/toxic. Read the label. Will dawn dish soap get rid of fleas on kittens?

any soap will, if you leave it on for about 15 minutes but it is very importlant to throughly rinse it off the dog, to avoid skin irritation...also if you include some garlic powder in their food, it repells fleas

Garlic is actually known to be bad for dogs, so I would avoid adding it to their food in any form. Dawn dish detergent is so effective on fleas--not because of suffocation because we have used other soaps that do not work at all--it kills them instantly. To avoid a dry coat after a shampoo, follow up with a moisturizing shampoo for dogs.

How do you use pesticides on crops?

Every farmer has to answer this for him/herself. Integrated Pest Management (IPM) should always be considered when the crop is being planned. Contact-kill pesticides should never be applied until the number of pests has risen to a level where economic damage is occurring. Once the number of pests has risen to an unacceptable level, only approved pesticides should be applied by a trained, licensed operator.
