Okay - People and even politicians, as well as newspapers, quote the hours worked by a flight crew member as 80 hours a month. This a number that was negotiated through years of labor/management contracts in regards to hours paid only (read:not worked). In other words, Crew Members are only paid when the "wheels are moving", i.e. pushed back from the gate until parking the brake at Destination. This does not begin to account for the total hours worked getting an airplane ready to load passengers or cargo, flight planning, weather planning, pre-flighting the cockpit, monitoring fueling, weight and balance, security briefing crew and air marshalls, reviewing maintanence log books and exceptions, exterior inspection, weekly updates to charts and airports and navigation sites that must be reviewed and filed prior to getting paid, deplanning passengers or cargo; all accomplished in an efficient and professional manner "off the clock". Now add in the hours spent away from home waiting to be legal for the return leg - sitting in a hotel room or worse lounging at the airport - and you have employees devoting 2 hours for every 1 hour paid time. And that is only for normal operations. The Pilots must also make correct decisions which sometimes take the aircraft away from its scheduled destination for reasons of medical emergencies or weather related delays or mechanical problems.

What is the value of a Seattle Pilots pennant?
Vintage pennants are difficult to date to a specific season. Many pennants were for sale at the ballparks for several years in a row. Team logo's and artwork could help in dating. Often team will use the same artwork on other souvenirs like programs, and yearbooks making it possible to date to a specific year. But this one is easy to date.
The Seattle Pilots ill fated team lasted just one year before moving to Milwaukee to become the Brewers. The pennant would be from 1969 and one that features the logo on the left hand side, reads Seattle Pilots to the right and measures 30" long sells for about $30.-$50.
Most pre 1970 full sized (12" x 30") felt pennants sell for below $50.and up to $100. for photo pennants, and scroll or roster pennants. Championship, and World Series Pennants are more desired by collectors and will sell for more. As with all collectibles condition is important.
Common flaws with pennants are missing ties, pin holes, frying, creases, and "crackling" on the printing. Sometimes people will trim down a pennant to rid it of the frying or other flaws like a flat tip (point) Caused by being pinned up and ripped off. Any of these flaws will degrade the pennant significantly. Doctored pennants - A term used to describe a pennant that has been altered to cover up a flaw, is a practice that is frowned upon among the collecting community, and could sell for less than a pennant with the flaws it was meant to cover up.

Who was the Top Female Pilot from any country?
One of the greatest aviatrixes in the United States if not the world was Jacqueline Cochran. Even though she died back in 1980, she still holds more aviation records than ANY pilot, male OR female! Among her many, many accomplishments, she was the first woman to break the sound barrier. She was also the first woman to land and take off from an aircraft carrier, the first woman to pilot a bomber across the North Atlantic (in 1941), the first woman enshrined in the Aviation Hall of Fame in Dayton, Ohio, the first pilot to make blind (instrument) landing, the ONLY woman to ever be President of the Federation Aeronautique lnt'l (58-61), the first woman to fly a jet airplane across the Atlantic, the first pilot to fly above 20,000 feet with an oxygen mask and the first woman to enter the Bendix Trans-continental Race.
What are the working conditions for fighter pilots?
Up until the Vietnam War, jet fighter pilots HAD to fly the aircraft, there were no computers (as we know them today). If a Vietnam era Phantom pilot blacked out at the controls, he crashed. If a US Navy Crusader pilot was wounded and couldn't land his plane on a carrier's decks, he crashed. Those jets had standard instruments (gauges and dials) and manually operated controls (mechanical computers existed then, they were just like the odometer on the cars prior to digital screens); if a pilot couldn't pull those levers during strong "G" turns, he lost control of his aircraft.
Today's 21st century fighter pilots use computers; if the pilot blacks out, the computer takes over and flies the aircraft. If the pilot can't land on a carrier, the computer lands the plane. Pilots read TV screens now (heads up displays), very FEW gauges and dials (compared to Viet War jets), controls are assisted by computers so that strength is NO LONGER required for flying. If a pilot wants to try some dangerous Vietnam dog-fight style of maneuvering, the computer may not let the pilot do it.
If a pilot is an expert at video games (experienced in computer games), and knows the basics of aeronautics, and the aircraft...the pilot can fly a jet fighter.
