What tribe was Pocahantas from?

No one knows what tribe Pocahontas belonged to. Nearly every Powhatan tribe has claimed to be the tribe of Pocahontas at one point or another. Currently, two tribes, the Mattaponi and the Patawomeck claim to be the tribe of Pocahontas through her mother. Numerous Powhatan tribes are now extinct and can no longer claim the honor. When the existing Powhatan tribes get together to write about their common history (example: We're Still Here: Contemporary Virginia Indians Tell Their Stories (2000, 2001, 2006) they never state which tribe is the tribe of Pocahontas's mother because they do not agree on this. The True Story of Pocahontas (which a previous poster here used as a source) has numerous errors and its authors have serious credibility issues. It should not be used as an authoritative source. Pocahontas may have been Mattaponi, but we'll never know.

What were some of Pachacuti's accomplishments?

After his father's death Pachacuti became sole ruler of the Incan empire. Immediately he initiated an energetic series of military campaigns which would transform the small state around Cuzco into a formidable nation. His conquests in collaboration with Tupac Yupanqui (Pachacuti's son and successor) were so successful that the 9th Incan emperor is sometimes referred to as "The Napoleon of the Andes." When Pachacuti died in 1471, the empire stretched from present-day Chile to the south and Ecuador to the north, including the modern countries of Peru and Bolivia, as well as most of northern Argentina.

Pachacuti reorganized the new empire into the Tahuantinsuyu or "the united four provinces." Under his system, there were four apos, which each controlled one of four provinces (suyu). Below these governors were t'oqrikoq, or local leaders, who ran a city, valley, or mine. By the time of the Spanish conquest of Peru, each apohad around 15 t'oqrikoq below him, but in the beginning there were likely fewer. He also established a separate chain of command for the army and priesthood to establish a system of checks and balances on power.

Pachacuti rebuilt much of Cuzco, designing it to serve the needs of an imperial city, and as a representation of the empire. Each suyu had a sector of the city, centering on the road leading to that province; nobles and immigrants lived in the sector corresponding to their origin. Each sector was further divided into areas for the hanan (upper) and hurin (lower) moieties. The Incan and his family lived in the center; the more prestigious area. Many of the most renowned monuments around Cuzco, such as the great sun temple of Coricancha and the "fortress" of Sacsayhuamán, were constructed during Pachacuti's reign.

Why was Captain John Smith with Pocahontas at a time?

Smith came to Jamestown in it's second year and did not " go to her land". Jamestown settled on an Native American empire of 14,000 people. They took the land with no respect for the people all ready living there. If the land hadn't been the worse in the area the men of Jamestown most likely would have been attacked. As it was the Native Americans knew that there were problems with swampy land, bad water, and disease so the 104 men built a fort in the "slums" of the empire. Later, after returning to England Smith lied in his book about his role in Jamestown and his meeting of Pocahontas, but by that time she was all ready dead.

Who was the princess who saved captin John Smith in Jamestown?

She didn't save Smith. The story we know is not true. Actually the colonist landed in an area of 14,000 Native Americans and in the worse land in the area. Powhatan pretty much left them alone. I think he figured that they would die from the bad water and disease . He was fairly right. Within 6 months there were only 34 men left alive of the 104 who came. It wasn't until after his death that the brother of Powhatan attacked the colony. The story about Smith is also not true. He did NOT save Jamestown. He was only there a very few months and he lied about his contribution to the settlement in a book he wrote several years later. He also made up the story about Pocahontas and she died young so couldn't refute his story. The man who did save Jamestown was the husband of Pocahontas and gave tobacco seeds to the colony. That was John Rolfe.
