One of the worst environmental problems in the Philippines is deforestation. Rampant illegal logging, mining, and agricultural expansion have led to the loss of valuable forest cover, affecting biodiversity, contributing to climate change, and increasing the risk of natural disasters like floods and landslides. Conservation efforts and sustainable land management practices are crucial to address this issue.

The Thames River in the UK has historically suffered from pollution due to industrialization and urbanization. Efforts have been made to improve water quality through sewage treatment, regulations on industrial discharges, and conservation measures. Although pollution levels have decreased, challenges remain in controlling runoff from urban areas and agricultural land.

It is surmised that carbon dioxide is the top contributor to global warming. It, along with other greenhouse gases, have caused climate change worldwide.

Another view:

There is no compelling reason to blame carbon dioxide for rises in temperatures. A weak correlation between CO2 levels and rising temps does not imply that CO2 causes global warming.

One hundred years of temp watching is not enough time when considering earth's climate history.

The observation of two trends rising together for a short time is no reason to believe one is the cause of the other. To establish a casual relationship it must show that the cause precedes the effect, for it to be valid. The relationship should also be shown in increases and decreases in climate cycles.

And even when the criteria are met, as in the case of solar/climate relationships, many people are unwilling to acknowledge the variation in the presumed cause truly produced the variation in the presumed effect.

Considering the temp variations in the last half million years, three glacial terminations and four glacial inceptions, it was noted that increase and decreases in co2 atmospheric concentration did not precede the changes in air temperature, it followed them, and in some cases by hundreds of thousands of years.

There were long periods of time when co2 levels increased, yet temps remained fairly constant, or dropped. There were periods when the co2 dropped, and temps actually rose.

Also, strong negative climatic feedbacks prohibit catastrophic warming.

These play a great role in the planet's climate. If they did not, no life could exist here.

Warmer temps would mean more evaporation, which means more clouds in the atmosphere.

This would tend to cool the planet by reflecting solar radiation back into space.

Also, there is no evidence that rising co2 level cause more violent storms.

There is evidence that solar activity may have caused the warming of the 70's through the 90's.

But it is clear there has been no warming for 17 years, which may be long term, or just a pause in the warming trend.

If you are going to be an outside observer, you need at least to understand the different types of radiation and their effects on living bodies, the chemistry of how different species are absorbed and how they behave in the environment, and so on. So if you haven't already got a degree in physics I suggest you complete some sort of course at you local college on the subject, before going into print.

Cutting trees will lead to less rain on earth and increase the temperature of the earth thus leading to the melting of ice and decreasing the land.

Cutting down trees (and not replanting them) will effect humans as well as animals, the ecosystem, and the climate because:

a) trees happen to be a GREAT source of oxygen

b) think about how may animals live in trees...or use their fruits as food

c) trees happen to have many advantages to them...but they provide LOTS of shade from the sun's harmful uva rays (hint: sunscreen)

d) they maintain ecosystems

Tires can take hundreds to thousands of years to decompose in a landfill due to their synthetic rubber composition which breaks down very slowly. This is a question of quality not of measurement. So a thought experiment is called for:

Assume you have insured a painting for replacement or market value - you really like the painting (it was painted by your great grandmother and passed to your granny and your mom and to you) so when it gets burned up you opt for replacement rather than a cash settlement. The insurance company duplicates the canvas, the composition of the paints, and even the brush strokes of the artist. They age it - flyspecks and cracks and all. Then they give it to you.

Have they returned the original painting to you?

Most folks will say no. It looks the same, feels the same and smells the same. Bit it is not the same. It is a duplicate, a sham, a copy of the real thing.

The environment is the same. You can clean up an oil spill, remove the stains, restore the chemistry and biochemistry, replace the fish and crabs and algae, and fix the landscaping so before and after photos are identical. But is not the same. It is not original.

However, in life sometimes close is as good as you'll ever get. Five generations from now who will know the difference.
