BOD commonly stands for "Biochemical Oxygen Demand." It is a measure of the amount of dissolved oxygen consumed by biological organisms in water. High BOD levels indicate organic pollution and can lead to oxygen depletion in aquatic systems.

Definition of radiation pollution?

The most common example of radiation pollution that I know of is when you are talking about an astronomical observatory. If the observatory is located near a city the astronomers are constantly complaining about the lights of the city being reflected in whatever cloud cover there is fouling the view of the sky.

What problem is associated with using coal as an energy source?

The burning of coal releases harmful pollutants into the air, contributing to air pollution and climate change. Coal mining can also have negative environmental impacts, such as deforestation and water pollution. Additionally, coal is a non-renewable resource, so its supply is finite.

One of the results of the rapid use of natural resources is that?

it leads to environmental degradation, such as deforestation, air and water pollution, and habitat destruction. This can have long-lasting negative impacts on ecosystems, biodiversity, and the well-being of both humans and wildlife. What is the difference between the M291 and M295 decontamination kits?

While both kits are for chemical decontamidation, the M291 kit is for skin decontamination and the M295 kit is for equipment decontamidation. It is important to note that there are proper procedures to follow when using either of these kits. Chemical decontamidation must be done properly and correct equipment, including a mask and hood, must be used. Anyone considering using these kits in the event of chemical contamidation should get proper training as to the proper use BEFORE any need arises for their use!

What processes are involved in the water cycle?

What are 4 sources of land pollution caused by solid waste?

  1. Improperly disposed waste in landfills can release harmful chemicals and toxins into the soil and groundwater.
  2. Littering and illegal dumping of solid waste can contaminate the land and harm wildlife.
  3. Industrial activities and mining can lead to the accumulation of toxic substances in the soil.
  4. Improper disposal of electronic waste, such as old batteries and appliances, can release hazardous materials into the environment.

Why do people pollute the water?

Because it is more cheaper. People don't want pay garbage companies. Some people are just lazy or don't care.

First of all I think we shouldn't pollute water because it contains bacteria, and we drink it. Over 71% of earth surface is covered with water bodies and other chemicals that humans tip in the drain.
Most people pollute because they don't want to pay for someone to pick up the garbage and dispose of it properly. Some people just don't care what happens to it or where it goes as long as they don't have to carry it around with them any longer.

Why is ethanol from sugar cane called biofuel but ethanol from ethene not?

Ethanol from sugarcane is known as a biofuel because the ethanol is derived from a biological, renewable source. Burning this releases recently absorbed carbon dioxide so it is part of the carbon cycle.

Ethanol from ethene (or ethylene) is typically produced from fossil fuels, namely petroleum, so it is a non-renewable resource. Burning this releases carbon dioxide that was absorbed millions of years ago, so it is all extra. Burning fossil fuels is causing global warming.

Do you capitalize Nature?

yes you do because you capalatise nouns nouns are things people ANIMALS

Actually, you would not capitalize a common noun, such as an animal. If you were saying, for example, "I came across a lynx on the Mt. Chimmons trail." You would not capitalize lynx; however, if you are using its scientific name, Lynx canadensis, then you capitalize the genus name and you do not capitalize the species name. More examples, do not capitalize: beagle, dog, cat, black ferret, black bear, etc. If you are writing a pets name, like Snoopy, then you would capital the name because that is a proper noun. I hope that is clear and concise.

Annually how much carbon dioxide does nuclear power produce?

Total greenhouse gas emissions (most of it comes from carbon dioxide) from nuclear power is about 5.7 gCeq/kwh (grams of carbon equivalent per kWh of electricity produced). To calculate annual emission form nuclear power, you have to apply it to the electricity generation capacity of a nuclear power plant.

What are two things that can be done to send less carbon dioxide into the atmosphere?

Reduce reliance on fossil fuels by using renewable energy sources such as solar or wind power, and promote energy efficiency by using energy-saving appliances and improving insulation in buildings. Encourage practices such as reforestation and afforestation to increase carbon sequestration in trees and forests.

Identify two things you should do if you see loose decontamination powder when inpecting the m295 equipment decontamination kit?

If you see loose decontamination powder in an M295 kit, you should avoid touching or inhaling it to prevent exposure. Make sure to report the finding to the appropriate authorities for proper disposal and replacement to ensure the kit's effectiveness in decontamination procedures.

Benefits of bioplastics?

bioplastics give the advantage of becoming a fertiliser and a useful material in our everyday lives. Though it is not as durable as the common plastics it gives less carbon dioxide emmissions and consumption of fossil.

How can you save the earth from anything harmful?

Well, there are SO many ways to save the earth! And you don't have to be an adult to do it! Well, one way is to stop global warming! By doing this, we can save our planet earth from flooding, we can save the polar bears, and all the little critters down there! Just recycle, Use less electricity, and stuff like that. As you probobly know, Our earth is 3/4 water. Well Most of that is Ocean water! and you know that we can't drink that ew! Our fresh water is very limited, so it's precious to us! And we need to treat it like that! One way is to turn water off while brushing our teeth, by doing this, your saving 30 gallons of water! Oh.... but don't get me started on how much water those use! One bathtub takes about 100 gallons of water to fill up! So, showers are always the best to use! But, according to scientific evidence, a half-hour shower, uses 100 gallons of water, even if your using a low-pressure water head! So, 5-10 min. showers are always the best thing you can do to save our earths most valuble treasure! (MVT) haha... anyways... have you guys seen the movie WALL-E? If, you havent, its about a robot who has to clean up ALL of out garbage that could have been recycled! That's what it's going to be like if we do not take 10 minutes of our time to recycle!

What are some challenges with using and managing these alternative renewable energy sources solar panels wind turbines and hydro-electric turbines?

solar panels and such do release carbon when they are made, and sometimes are near impossible to maintain.

That is not completely true. My home has a 400 watt wind turbine and a bank of 75 watt Shell panels for power. It takes less then 20 hours a week to maintain the system. The payback, with the grants is about twenty years, unless we have a wind storm, hail or lightening again.....

If I had it to do over there is no way I would waste money and time on this nonsense!

On larger scales one of the harder issues is hiding the damage these systems do to the environment. Killing of birds and bats, destruction of fish and the land use are just some of the issues.

The fossil fuel plants that must also be maintained to supply power when these go down. Remember wind is not always there, nor is solar so these fossil fuel plants run full time with no load,. Net result is no fuel savings and increased CO2 production. Strong feel good though!

What is re-urbanization?

Ÿ Re-urbanisation is usually a government initiative to counter the problem of inner city decline.

Ÿ Inner city decline is brought about when problems such as inadequate housing, transport problems, pollution and over-population occur in the city.

Ÿ With these problems, the attractiveness of the city center is drastically reduced, resulting in loss of potential investment and an economically less productive city.

Ÿ Reversal of urban decline, often through city center redevelopment acts as a catalyst to increase attractiveness of the city.

Ÿ Thus encouraging people to move back to the city.
