In 1990 the first class stamp was 25 cents. For a postcard it was 15 cents.

They do this for the same reason passenger take two or more planes to reach their final destination. Large ships carrying 4200+ containers transport them across large distances, such as oceans. It is not efficient for them to make many stops for each shipment of containers. The minimum size for a square envelope is 5" x 5".

Square letters are subject to the nonmachinable surcharge.

Soak in hot water, but this gets rid of the gum on the back. To partially preserve the gum you would need a lifter device sold at stamp shops. The device is essentially a humidor, a closed container that has a very humid environment. Another item that will sometimes work is to put them in the freezer. Once they've been in there for a couple hours, they can sometimes be separated.
