How are ex-convicts treated by society?
In the US, in my opinion, horribly. Ex-cons are not allowed to vote for a period of 10 years and their criminal record is a matter of public record forever, unless an expungement is allowed. Many places of employment will not hire an ex-con so the recidivism rate is very high for these individuals. They are continually punished for their crimes, even after having served their time.

Is mark david Chapman out of prison?
No. Mark David Chapman has been imprisoned in the Attica Correctional Facility, outside of Buffalo, New York since 1981. He was sentenced to Life in prison, with the possibility of parole after 20 years, for the murder of Ex-Beatle John Winston Lennon.
Chapman has been denied parole five times, by a three-member board, in closed hearings lasting less than an hour. The first four hearings took place in October 2000, October 2002, October 2004, and October 2006. Chapman's fifth hearing was on August 12, 2008. He was again denied parole "due to concern for the public safety and welfare." He will next be up for parole in August 2010.
