Place the salmon in a flat glass pan. In a small bowl, combine the remaining ingredients and pour over the salmon steaks. Cover the pan tightly with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 1 to 2 hours.

Place the Steak Plate in the top of the grill and the Grilling Plate in the bottom. Set the lever to the front. Set the temperature to Medium to allow the grill to preheat. When the green light goes off, the grill is preheated. Place the salmon steaks on the Grilling Plate and top with a tablespoon of marinade, scooping up as many sliced shallots as possible and spooning them over each steak. Discard any remaining marinade or, if desired, you may boil the marinade for 5 minutes (to kill any bacteria) and use the hot marinade as a wonderful sauce. Close the lid. Cook the salmon for 7 minutes. Check the fish with the tip of a knife and continue grilling for 1 to 2 minutes, if necessary.

Subsistence users use dipnets to catch the salmon when they are swimming by, or fish wheels (large wheels that collect fish in pockets and hold them in a tank until they are removed by the operator).

The best lure for chum salmon is herring. They also seem to like lures in the colors of hot pink, purple, and green.

Overfishing is depletion of resources in fish stock due to fish sought for a greater demand than they are able to reproduce naturally. Future generations of large pink salmon fish stock has the danger of being limited because of the two year life cycle of the fish.

Answer2: In addition to the above comment, I read a very interesting article about the salmon. In order to breed many salmon species swim upstream, facing turbulent waters along the way. Instead of being overwhelmed by the rough water these fish actually take advantage of it. The do not plough through chaotic water. Instead when swimming upstream, they conserve energy by using vortices, or miniature whirlpools , that form where the water flow is disturbed by rocks, branches, or other objects. As the vortices form on alternating sides of an object, the fish curve their bodies from side to side and glide between the pockets of turbulence. Some schools of fish use the vortices created by the fish swimming in front of them, effectively riding in their wake. The fish can take advantage of rhe turbulence created by their own bodies. Researchers hope to borrow from the salmon's efficient swimming style to harvest energy from slow-moving water.

Many fisherman will mount a salmon if it exceeds the normal length or weight of what is normally caught. My opinion is you can mount whatever sized salmon you want. For instance, my friend mounted a small salmon. When I asked why he told me it was his very first salmon he'd ever caught.
