Why does your Saturn vue steering shake at 65mph?

The most common cause of steering vibration at that speed would be either an out of balance tire, bent wheel or a defective tire. It is also possible that there could be a bent or worn front axle (half-shaft) or worn CV joint, but although those things also happen quite frequently, that's not quite as common as a cause of front end vibrations.

Should the trac button be engaged for normal driving conditions in a 1997 Saturn SC2?

"Trac" stands for traction. If/when the drive wheels slip the computer causes a deliberate misfire of the engine to reduce power to the wheels. The purpose of that power reduction is to prevent more wheel slippage since once the wheels start slipping, you have considerably less control.

Leave "Trac" engaged, it doesn't cause any problems during normal driving.

How do you run a compression test for 2001 Saturn SL?

Running a compression test is pretty much the same for all internal combustion engines.

  1. Remove all sparkplugs, marking where the wires went; you don't want to connect the wrong wires to the plugs when you're finished.
  2. Start with cylinder 1, screw in a compression gauge where the sparkplug just came out. Some compression gauges just press in, but I prefer the screw in type.
  3. Have an assistant engage the starter as though trying to start the engine. Obviously the engine won't start without plugs.
  4. You should hear and/or feel the engine compression on the single cylinder with the gauge in place; make sure that cylinder goes through compression cycle at least 3 times.
  5. Read the value on the gauge. The gauge should hold the compression reading, allowing you to record the reading.
  6. Write down the compression reading and the cylinder number.
  7. CLEAR THE COMPRESSION GAUGE. You can release the compression reading, usually by pressing a button or turning a knob. It's different for different style gauges.
  8. Repeat the process for all cylinders.
  9. Compare the compression value for all cylinders; they should be within a few percent of each other. Any small variance can be attributed to cylinder or valve wear. Large differences indicate severe problems. If any two adjacent cylinders have zero compression, you probably have a blown head gasket.

If you don't have THICK, I mean REALLY THICK deposits... no need. A little black soot won't hurt anything.

How do you replace '99 Saturn SL2's Engine Mounts?

To replace the engine mounts on a 1999 Saturn SL2, first, securely lift and support the vehicle with jack stands. Remove any components obstructing access to the mounts, such as the air intake or battery. Unbolt the old engine mounts using a socket wrench, then position the new mounts in place and tighten the bolts to the manufacturer's specifications. Finally, reassemble any components you removed and lower the vehicle.

Is there any way to glue cracked Saturn quarter panels back together or can a DIY job be done using wrecker panels?

Yes, you can attempt to glue cracked Saturn quarter panels back together using automotive adhesive, which is designed for plastic bonding. However, for a more durable and reliable repair, it’s often better to replace the damaged panels with wrecker panels, especially if the cracks are extensive. A DIY job can be done by carefully removing the damaged panels and installing the new ones, but ensure you have the right tools and follow proper procedures to ensure a secure fit.
