Both are the compression taking members . A column is always vertical whereas the strut is inclined member . A column is a load carrying members in acse of RCC framed structue whereas the strut is a member of roof truss etc.

Easy:

1) Disconnect the air hose clips.

2) Unbolt the bottoms of the shocks.

3) Unbolt the tops of the shocks

4) Install new shocks

5) When installing the hoses to the new shocks, make sure the seals are clean and lubricate them lightly with a little silicone.

Now, replacing the pressure hoses, that is a much harder job.

On the shock you will have a washer and a grommet on top, then put it through the mounting hole and put on a grommet then washer then nut. Its a grommet sandwich with the mounting hole being the meat.

shocks/struts have nothing to do with how high the car rides.... you have bad springs, or too much junk in the trunk...
