Not all ski resorts make fake snow, but many of them do use snowmaking machines to supplement natural snowfall. The ability to make snow is particularly important for resorts in areas with unreliable snowfall or milder temperatures.

Solitude Ski Resort is a WONDERFUL place to go. It is small, the people are friendly and it is nice. It is near park city, about 1 hour to 30 minutes away from park city. It is in Utah, near Salt Lake City. If you have never skied before or are skiing for the first time in that year I recommend you do the ski school. The instructors are friendly with the kids and most kids love it. In adult classes the teachers are humorous and the classes are about 2 hours. The good thing about Solitude is that it is so small that there are never long lines. the longest line I have ever seen there had about five of six pairs of people. The condos there are very nice and parking is no problem. For the ski slopes, they have very good ones. Most of the main slopes have a resturaunt or cafe at the top of a hill were you can take off your skis and have some coffee or hot cocoa. Solitude is a lovely place, I hope you try it!!

Adjusting your own bindings isn't a bad thing if you know how to do it properly, but since you obviously don't know how to you need to take them to a certified technician, found at all ski shops and sport shops.

Wood and fiberglass are the most common for the core but you can also have carbon fiber, the edges are made of metal, modern day skis are carbon steel but older skis can have chrome type, such as those used in cutlery. Thetopsheet, graphics and bases are made out of various kinds of plastics.

The real question is what time of winter. February in general is considered best from a snow point of view. In recent years the amount of snow has lessened due to global warming, and in January you might find that many good slopes are closed. In March, on the other hand, the snow starts melting.

February has its problems too. It's school vacation time, so the slopes are crowded and the lines are long. It's also the height of the season so prices are high and you have to book early.

I recommend the first week of March. By then there is bound to be plenty of snow, and hopefully its still cold enough so that it doesn't start melting.

Newton's First Law Says: An object at rest tends to stay at rest and an object in motion tends to stay in motion with the same speed and in the same direction unless acted upon by an unbalanced force. Assuming you mean downhill (or alpine) skiing. Gravity is that "unbalanced force" which makes us accelerate once we are on a slope. Friction from the air, and a small amount from the snow on your skis is fighting the force of gravity, but is not enough to balance it, and so you accelerate. Likewise, if you come to a flat spot on the snow, snow and air friction will gradually slow you down until you stop. Here, the level ground is providing a counter force to gravity (otherwise you would sink down into the ground!)

Ski poles only help you balance when you are a beginner. Beginners who rely on their ski poles for balance end up learning some bad habits of form, some ski areas won't even give students poles until they're an intermediate skier! Ski poles are more about rhythm, and when you're in difficult terrain, like moguls, they help you with unweighting. (They are also very handy for unhooking bindings and for pointing to things in the distance ;-) ) If you are relying on your poles for balance, or dragging them while you ski because that makes you feel secure, you might want to try skiing without them for awhile. You'll develop balance much faster without them.

I would say that a ski can easily reach 40-50 mph if one's advanced enough and using long skis and going straight down paralel. Demensions? My skis are for moderate skill levels and they are 151 cm, but racing skis can get up to 210 cm. Width depends on the brand. Probably about 4 inches.
