What is the quickest way to go to Kennedy space center from Miami?
Your best source of information would probably be Mapquest.
Where is the food kept in a space shuttle?
The food is kept in special frozen areas. This helps keeping the food from withering.
Where are the space shuttles now?
Space Shuttle Enterprise is at the Intrepid Sea, Air, and Space Museum in New York, Space Shuttle Discovery is at the Smithsonian in Virginia, Space Shuttle Atlantis is at the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex in Florida, and Space Shuttle Endevour is at the California Science Center in Los Angeles.
Characteristics of a spaceship?
It would have a very low leakage rate.
Machinery to allow control of direction and speed, self-maintained atmosphere, protective shields against heat and cold and radiation.
Communication equipment.
Clear windows to allow viewing.
Have you tried going to the light switch in you Shticker book, there should be an option about sound, check that the sound has not been turned off, if it has, turn i on. Hope this helps.
Why do you have space shuttles?
The question is a little moot, since we don't have space shuttles any more.
How does the space shuttle move in space without air?
Any action have a re-action.
The action of the space-shuttle is to let out gas in one direction. This will create a push effect that moves or turns the shuttle in opposite direction.
It works the same with aeroplanes and boats. they just have the action and reaction as in the movement resistance of air and water in addition. This resistance is hardly present at all in space. At least there is very little of it, depending on where we are.
What was the mission of the Columbia's first mission?
Space Shuttle Columbia's (OV-102) first operational mission (though it was her fifth overall), STS-5 (Astronaut Vance D. Brand Commanding), was a satellite deployment, experiment, and EVA mission from November 11-16, 1982.
Two communications satellites were successfully deployed:
1. Satellite Business Systems (SBS) 3
2. Anik C3 (Telesat Canada)
Both satellites were built by Hughes.
The EVA's had to be postponed due to spacesuit problems; the experiments, 3 performed by the crew (student experiments) and a West German microgravity experiment installed on the GAS (Get-Away Special) Canister payload in the shuttle bay, were successfully completed. GAS was one of the many satellite programs I worked on during my time working on many NASA programs as a government QA Engineer. Reusable in nature, it allowed for the installation of many inexpensive experiments to be performed in the weightlessness of space.
Which space shuttle disintegrated and killed the astronaut Kalpana Chawla?
Kalpana Chawla was killed when the space shuttle Columbia disintegrated during re-entry on February 1 2003.
Can you be in a space shuttle without a space suit on?
Yes, as long as all of the doors are sealed completely and the oxygen supply is functioning.
Astronauts do not wear their spacesuits for most of their time in space. Normal casual clothing is worn, except for during launch, for a spacewalk or re-entry.
What Disadvantages of solid fuel rockets?
They are often more polluting, less efficient, and the whole rocket has to withstand the immense heat of the burning propellant. If it can't cope, something may give, and spew burning fuel and/or searing flames onto a fuel tank, causing an explosion. They also cannot be turned off or controlled, once lit.
Actually, the main disadvantage it the tremendous weight of solid fuels.
What things are in outer space?
Stars, moons, satellites, and meteorites.
Planets, galaxies, dust, black and white holes, nebulae, etc. What are you looking for?
Why is Edwards Air Force Base an appropriate location for landing the space shuttle?
Because the run way is over 2 miles long.
Why did the space shuttle Columbia crash?
On blast off, a small piece of foam hit the wing, creating a small hole. On re-entry to the atmosphere the wing began to burn at that location due to hot gases getting in and a fire spread. This is what eventually destroyed Columbia
Who was the third person to go into space?
Cosmonaut Gherman Titov was the 3rd person to go into space on August 6, 1961. Vostok 2
was the first day-long Soviet space flight.
American Astronaut John Glenn was the third person and first American to go into space on
February 20, 1961. He was beaten by Yuri Gagarin and Gherman Titov of the Soviet Union.
Yuri Gagarin and Gherman Titov may have preceded John Glenn, but their competition was
a good-natured one, marked by professionalism, and there is no evidence that it ever led to
any beatings.
American astronaut Alan B. Shepherd was the second person and the first American in space.
What was the Kennedy space center called before Kennedy died?
The Kennedy Space Center was originally named Launch Operations Center. It was given the name Kennedy Space Center by Lyndon Johnson's executive order on November 19, 1963. It became official on December 20th, 1963.
Do they make 90 degree low profile shower drains to fit in a three inch space under a shower base?
Even if you rig up a drain within this space, 90 degrees is no problem. It is the 3 inches that is the problem. Bascially this would mean a 2 1/2 inch drain. It will work, albeit slowly.
The problem isn't that you can only fit a 2 1/2" pipe under it, it's that you can't fit a trap under there. Dig a hole for a trap or build a false floor. Neglecting to install a trap will cause headaches down the road, if the inspector lets you get away with it at all.
What was Ronald Mcnairs early childhood like?
Astronaut Ronald McNair's life was one of challenges met and overcome. From his roots in a small South Carolina town, he worked and studied his way into the elite ranks of those who have traveled in space. He had further aspirations that he considered even more lofty than space travel: he planned to enter the teaching profession. Unfortunately, his dreams ended in the 1986 explosion of the U.S. space shuttle Challenger. Mission specialist McNair and all of his crewmates perished in that tragic accident. Where can you find a map of Mission Control and where the shuttle is launched?
If you haven't already checked out these links, you really should. NASA Homepage Kennedy Space Center Homepage And I'm not sure if these links will provide the info you want, but they do have some interesting information. http://www.jsc.nasa.gov/programs/shuttle.html http://space.balettie.com/MCC.html
