gun made May 1910. value depends on condition. NOTE: the low number 1903 was dangerous to shoot because the receiver was found to be WEAK...........
Is your 1903 springfield 468049 safe to shoot?
probably not. improved heat treating of receivers started at #800,000
rifle should be checked by a gunsmith
ok, you own a firearm, think.... the data shows very very few shattered results, and all the data is from 1917. in 1987 or so some idiot shot his 1903 full of grease. i own a 425000 ish 1803 and the gun is to spec. this whole issues is dumb. they are NOT blowing up day to day. Have fun own a 1903 and enjoyit!
I agree, early 1903's are NOT blowing up daily. But those un-heated receivers can
blow up with high pressure shells. Ask the question at: 1903.com
See what the 1903 people have to say. Warnings can prevent disaster, for those who heed them..................
How can you find out the history of a Springfield Armory rifle?
Their are many websites that have detailed records of what sarial number rifles were built in what month of what year by each manufacturer. These sites are very easy to locate with a simple google search of "M1 garand".
This is probably a Stevens No 14, also known as the Little Scout. It is a single shot rolling block action manufactured from 1906 to 1910. With the Springfield name, it would have been "priced down" for a boy's first rifle. My catalog lists it from $125 in Poor condition and $300 in Excellent, but if it is truly like new, it could bring more IF you can connect with a Stevens collector who wants it.
It would be incredibly helpful to know if your rifle has a rolling block action or a turn bolt action. It seems as though Springfield manufactured at least two types of .22 with the Meteor name on it and possibly more. My own Meteor has a turn bolt action and is essentially the same design as a Springfield model 15, although I haven't yet discovered an interchangable part.
The Meteor was a budget bolt action single shot rifle. In nice conditiion it might bring $75. I have one that my Dad used to hunt rabbits in Kansas in the 1930s.
Where can you find information on an electric City 12 gauge shotgun?
This answer was previously supplied by Leftoverdj:
"Electric City" is a house brand, not the maker's name. An experienced gunsmith might be able to identify the maker by the design features, but the value is so low that such guns are rarely seen for repairs. The name tells us the gun was made for the Scranton. Pa market sometime after 1886 whe Scranton adopted that nickname.
The gun is Probably the US Infantry Rifled Musket Pattern of 1863. Replicas are going for nearly 500.00 dollars right now and a nice original un altered "63 will bring around 900-1000 depending on the manufacturer. They were all called "Springfield" but were made by many contractors including the US Arsenal at Springfield Mass.
I have one which I bought for $50.00 18 months ago. The price probably reflected the fact that there was a large crack in the forearm which I have since repaired. The blueing was 90% throughout. I've looked at hundreds of 22's and I would guess the value of a perfect Springfield Stevens Model-86 specimen to be around $150.00. NOTE: Check and see if this gun is marked "RANGER" on the barrel. If so, this means that your gun was marketed and sold through Sears Roebuck and was available through mail order. Can you imagine that - buying a rifle from a Sears catalogue. That's old America for you! Although this gun may not have much collector's value, it is actually my favorite 22, and the most accurate one I've ever shot. It is also one of the prettiest-looking rifles of its class I have ever seen. If you want to take a look at mine, it is featured on the homepage of http://www.leesportsmen.com . Incidentally, I can be reached at: johnphilp@dynamicdatasystems.org if you want to ask me any more questions about this wonderful gun. Sincerely, John Philp

Was the springfield 1973 used in the civil war?
If "1973" is the date the rifle was produced it couldn't have been used in the civil war because the civil war was in the 1860's.
I think you mean "1873" the Trapdoor was used in the Indian wars and the Spanish American War. During WW1 it was used for training and Stateside guard duty.
What is the relationship between Springfield Arms Co and Smith and Wesson?
I am not sure what you have, although there is someone out there who probably can answer that, just from what you have described, because it is probably a S&W 1855! The answer to your question is simple; in 1855, Smith and Wesson was a private company (as it is today) and, at that time, they had very little or no manufacturing capabilities, just a whole lot of ideas, inventions and patents. In 1855, Springfield Armory in Springfield, MA was "the" government arsenal (as it was long into the 20th century), thus rifles and pistols made there said "Springfield" on them. It is now a US National "Park". Check it out at (http://www.nps.gov/spar/). Because of this, the nickname Springfield has been applied to many models of US martial arms but most recently the Model 1903 (our infantry weapon of WWI). All of the companies calling themselves Springfield Armory, Arms or Arsenal today (and there are a few) are modern companies, either making, restoring or selling military arms or military arms "look-a-likes. Today, Smith & Wesson, is North America's premiere manufacturer of quality handguns and has no known relationship with any of the so-called "Springfields". In the 1850s Smith & Wesson owned the patent to the "drilled through cylinder" which was the key part of cartridge revolvers. Whenever they caught another manufacturer using this design, they sued and won every case. Any revolvers in the offender's inventory were turned over to S&W as part of the settlement and they marked them "Made for Smith & Wesson" before selling them. Because these companies were knowingly infringing on the patent, they often did not mark them with their own names, hoping to avoid litigation. The Springfield name was used by other manufacturers, particularly Stevens and Crescent, on shotguns, but I am not aware of any revolvers. I'm pretty sure your pistol wasn't made by the US Armory at Springfield.
How much would a 1903 Springfield rifle that had scope mounts put on it be worth right now?
This question can't be answered without more information. What version 1903 is it? The 1903's, and 1903 A3's were mass produced. Are the scope mounts original or did Bubba mount it in the garage? Does the rifle have an original stock or an aftermarket stock. Is the barrel cut down? The 1903 Springfield tends to be a widely "modified" rifle where the original versions are worth much more than the "bubbaized" versions.
AnswerFrom what I've seen with the more modern market, Springfield M. 1903 rifles have been selling from $600-$1000, depending on condition of course. It also depends on the make such as the M. 1903A3, used by most American snipers in World War Two as well as the late 1930's and early 1940's U.S. Marine Corps. These rifles too are roughly the same price range but of course these rifles were also made into the sniper rifle versions you're talking about. I've seen ORIGINAL sniper versions of the M. 1903A3 sell up to $2300 but the ones who were converted by civilian means to take a scope mount are worth much less. These often go for about $750-$1200. What is the serial number first? We'll go from there. It could be original.A mixture of potassium nitrate, charcoal, and sulphur in a 75:15:10 ratio
How old is the Springfield Savage bolt action model 234?
