A misfire has nothing to do with the way you use your firearm unless it is related to a lack of cleaning and maintenance. It could be the ammunition, especially if you are using old military surplus. If it misfires, you need to take it to a gunsmith and let him determine the cause.

The Springfield Jr. 22 LR was made by Page-Lewis Arms Co. from 1928 until 1933. Springfield Arms Co. never made a rifle with this name. I must be missing something - my Sprinflield Jr does not have Page-Lewis on it. The barrel is stamped with both Sprinfield Jr (at the breech), and Springfield Arms Company 22LR Model 50 on the barrel itself. There is the Springfield US Armory and Springfield Inc., but neither had anything to do with this gun and there was never a manufacturer named Springfield Arms Company. The name was first used, I think, by Page Lewis and in a confusing mess of purchases of one company by another, it was used by Crescent Firearms, Crescent-Davis, and eventually by the Stevens division of Savage Arms. Stevens guns often seem to have a name marked on the gun and a model number in the reference books, but this time we're lucky and have both on the gun. The Stevens model 50 is a bolt action single shot, so could remotely resemble the US 1903 Springfield military rifle and it wouldn't surprise me if they sold it as a Springfield Jr. I can't find any dates of production, but Stevens stopped using the Springfield Arms name on shotguns in 1948. The only reference I have with values for the Model 50 is several years old, but the top price listed is $150. I'll bet it hasn't gone up too much and an "average" price would be less than $100. This is not really an answer. My husband has a Page Lewis Model 50 Springfield Jr. that needs a part for it, the ejector. Someone lost the one on his rifle. When I was a kid we would buy shorts to save a dime per box, longs for general use, and long rifle hollow point if we were going after something larger, like coyotes. Now it's hard to find short or long ammunition anyplace, and if you can find it, it costs more than long rifle.

A lot depends on the condition of the musket. Are all parts original to the gun? Has the stock or barrel been shortened, or (sporterized) What is the date on the lockplate? Muskets dated 1861 are a little less common, as the war had yet to break out in full swing, so the government hadnt placed the bulk of orders for the Springfield (and other contract makers)... less common tends to be more valuable. Has the gun ever been cleaned? This can devalue the gun, if not done correctly. There is no substitute for an "un-fiddled with" gun that has been properly stored over the decades. Are there stampings on the barrel? Should be an Eagles head, along with V (visual inspection), and P (Proven...actually fired). Are there cartouches on the left side of the gun, opposite the lockplate? (This means the gun has been gov't inspected and approved for military use). If the gun has been sanded or refinished, these may be gone, which is unfortunate..it devalues the gun. What is the condition of the action, the bore, and the metal surfaces? Is there surface rust? Pitting? (caused by corrosive black powder residue). A good bore with strong rifling is a plus. If all original, and in decent condition, you may get anywhere from $1250.00 to $2500.00...it really depends on the eye of the collector. One mans junk is another mans gem.
