Programming or Overriding the Alarm when you have lost the remote

Open driver's door.

Turn ignition key to 'On'

Press and *hold programming button* in (button under dashboard, see below*)

After 15 seconds the locks will cycle 3 times. Do not release Programming button

Press lock (left) button the remotes to be programmed. The door locks will cycle one time.

Exit programming mode by releasing Programming button under dashboard and turning key to off.

*Code Alarm Programming Button is under dashboard on the kick panel by the driver's left knee, left of the steering column. If you can't find it, it might still be tucked up in the wiring harness higher up in that same general area. The botton is recessed in a plastic ring.

This button must be pressed while programming remotes or if the battery was disconnected and the lights are flashing.

Main fuse box is under hood near drivers side. Another fuse box is under hood release.

From under the hood, twist off the cover behind the headlight, then turn the collar that holds the bulb in place. Remove the bulb and replace it, reversing the above directions. DON'T TOUCH THE GLASS ON THE NEW BULB, DIRT OR GREASE WILL CAUSE IT TO BURN OUT QUICKLY.

Remove the Transmission Oil Pan Drain Plug (not the front differential oil drain plug). Drain the fluid to the last drop. Thoroughly clean the Drain Plug & re-install with a new Gasket. Torque plug to 18 lb-ft (25 N-m). Clean first then remove the Transmission Dipstick & install a clean funnel in the tube. Refill to the proper level with Dexron II or III from sealed containers. 2.2 liter models: about 8.3 us qt (7.9 liter); 2.5 liter models: about 10.0 us qt (9.5 liter).

Has two rubber hoses attached / one routes to the throttle body the other

routes to the hoses under the intake manifold.

Subaru fluid only from dealer. Cost is about $8.00 / qt and you need 4.5 for drain and refill or 14-16 to completely change it.

Fuse for the radio and clock is in the panel behind the coin tray. It is fuse #9. Your owner's manual has this information along with a diagram that I cannot share in this space. If you do not have a manual for your car, you need one.

unhook the battery

unhook the cables (remember where they came from)

if you have a belt tensioner - loosen it

unbolt the alternator (you might need to undo the tension arm)

you may also need to remove the radiator shroud and the radiator.

install in reverse order

If you have the H6 engine, the manual recommends supreme (i.e. 91 octane or better); otherwise, regular gas works fine. (The H6 will run alright on regular, too, but you'll get a performance drop of roughly 4 to 5HP, and if you drive at a higher altitude, you'll notice the drop moreso than those living closer to sea level.)

The general procedure to replace the window motor in a outback (in my case 2000 Outback) is the following: (Job Level: Moderate) 1) Remove the door panel from inside. Post back if you need instructions. 2) Completely slide down the glass (to avoid breakage) 3) Locate the window glass motor and remove the bolts. If they are rebitted - just use a drill bit to remove it. 4) Replace with new motor - if you dont have a rebitting maching - no issue - I usually use the right size blot/nut and manage my way with tools to fix it in place tight.
