There is one in the engine compartment behind the battery in a plastic box that an odd shape, bit like a rectangle with one corner extended away from the center.

The other is in the cabin, underneath the parking brake and above the hood release latch. Its behind a plastic lid.

Head gasket is probably blown. Water is passing out through exhaust. This is a common problem with subarus

I have a 1999 Legacy SUS and my dipstick is located on the driver side of the vehicle directly below some vaccum lines. It is just a few inches from the firewall and you can see the transmission filter clearly. The dipstick's tube enters the transmission right next to the filter.

Remove the four screws that hold the cluster face on, carefully disconnect all the various connectors from the back of the cluster. http://www.mrwhizard.com/ is a place that will repair that cluster for 189.00 with a two year warranty. The speedo head is generally the culprit from what I've read. I am going to send mine to them for repair. Replacing the speedo head with a used one may give you problems, a new one needs to have the miles reset, or some staement from DMV to ensure all are aware that the odometer is not actual miles.

red wire= main power/postive yellow wire=main power/memory black wire=ground wire/negative

it means the cd player can,nt read the cd

I do not know your year Outback specifically, but the most difficult part on the ones I have seen is getting clear access to the back of the bulb. You may have to remove part of the air cleaner, the battery, or other shrouding.

You wiggle the plug and wire feeding the bulb while pulling to remove and there is a spring clip holding the bulb in. Squeeze it and it will flip out of the way. No tools required. Be sure to not touch the new bulb with your fingers since the oil from your hands will shorten bulb life.

There is no Power Steering Filter on a 2002 Subaru Legacy/Outback.

The manual states that it is only recommended for short periods of time. I do not know why! could have something to do with the front transmission not being designed to take full power from the engine, as when AWD is engaged your front wheels only receive 90% and the rear 10%, until of course the front wheels slip and the rear gets allocated more power. I hope this helps and would be interested to hear other opinions.

If it has a hydraulic clutch, I believe they can not be adjusted. When the pedal travel is no longer acceptable the clutch disc must be replaced.

There is no gauge according to your owners manual. As such you would not know if it needed fluid so adding fluid would not be wise. Service is done by the Subaru dealer. Good to have one less maintenance item, isn't it?

Subarus are well known for having rattles in the exhaust shields under the car. There are extensive heat shields on the exhaust pipes that are held on with clamps. Over time these clamps loosen up and their bolts rust out. When the engine runs through certain RPM bands (as in shifting), these shields come into resonance and vibrate.

If you get under the car and examine all the heat shields you will probably find the loose one. Replace the missing or rusted out bolts and the rattles will go away.
