Tsar Nicholas II, was a despot. He repressed any persons or organizations that sought a democratic Russia. His continued actions in World War One led to many defeats and deaths as Russia was ill prepared to fight Germany. Food shortages, arrests and executions made him extremely unpopular and feared.

After the Tsar abdicated a Provisional Government (PG) was set up until a Constituent Assembly could be seated to write a constitution. The PG was almost as conservative as the Tsarist regime in that it continued to fight in World War I, was unable to end shortages of food and was not in favor of redistribution of land, the very three things that prompted the revolution that toppled the Tsar.

The PG was impotent in many ways, the most important being that it had to barter for its existence with the Soviets, the various councils of workers, soldiers and peasants. The PG pledged to the Soviets that it would not make major changes to the laws without approval from the Soviets. Thus the PG had responsibility but no power, whereas the Soviets (the councils) had power but no responsibility.

The Bolsheviks and other Marxist parties did everything they could to undermine the authority of the PG including launching a premature revolution in July 1917 that failed.

The PG began losing the support of the armed forces as soldiers began deserting and disobeying orders. Eventually the PG completely lost control of both the army at the front lines and the garrisons withing the cities.

Nicholas II, Czar of Russia, was an uncertain leader. Having been born into the position, he found it a daunting proposition to lead an entire nation. His uncertainty made him indecisive. He was more of an affectionate, gentle family man who enjoyed spending time with his wife and five children.

( The Romanian Queen was one of the few women who knew personally the following wax-museum tableau of famous femmes: Queen Victoria ( a blood relation), The entire Romanov family,. including Anastasia, and yes, Amelia Earhart ( in l935 when she was touring Europe and was presented with the aeronautics merit award- similar to the US Distinguished service cross, which in the DFC form, she did receive, the first woman to be so awarded. But back to Princess Olga, the Olga wedding was well along int he design stages her fantasxtic and very Russian wedding gown survives- I saw it at a Newark Museum exhibit on Czarist Russia some years back. in l9l5-l9l6 she was 20-2l so certainlyh an adult crown princess. had she married Nick, well ther might have been one less victim of the so-called St. Petersburgh Massacre- actually happening at Ekaterinberg/

Soviets

The Bolsheviks won a majority in a number of key soviets including Petrograd, Moscow, and several other cities.

Tsar Nicholas ll escaped to Germany with his family to escape the civil unrest. He was later murdered by the Bolsheviks on the night of the 16th July 1918.

If you believe Anastasia survived the murder of her family,( and depending on her age. ) Maybe. PS It is rumored that Anna Anderson ( possibly Anastasia ) had a child.

Czar Nicholas II Romanov was the Czar who was killed several months after the October Revolution. The murder took place during the Russian Civil War.

Lenin ousted Alexander Kerensky, head of Russia's Provisional Government, which had replaced Tsar Nicholas II. Lenin did not overthrow the Tsar.

Germany's introduction of unrestricted submarine warfare, leading to the deaths of Americans, rallied the US populace to war. Wilson gained support for the war by saying Russia's revolution will lead to world peace. This was in his "War Message".

Alexander Kerensky was the second leader of the Russian Provisional Government in 1917 when it was overthrown by Vladimir Lenin and the Bolsheviks.

Many people who actually knew the real Anastasia did not believe that Anna was Anastasia. The tutor for the royal children went to see her and said that if she was Anastasia he was a China man. Anastasia's Aunt Irene (Alexandra's sister) came to see Anna and said that the facial features did not match.

However people compared pictures of Anna Anderson and the real Anastasia from similar angles and lighting and said that their ears were similar. A woman who had authenticated the diaries of Anne Frank said that the two had similar writing.

1917. The Russian Provisional Government was established in March 1917 within a few days of the abdication of the Tsar. It was supposed to be temporary and it was but not for the reason it had anticipated. The Communist government was established in October 1917.

Tsar Alexander II "freed" the serfs in 1861, but the serfs were still bound to the land for another 49 years. The Russian government took land from the landowners and paid them for it. This land was put into collectives and each serf had to make enough money over the next 49 years to repay the government the money it had given to the landowners. Once the debt was paid off the serf was free to leave if he wanted.

Alexander II was assassinated in 1881.
