The Traditional view held by the Vatican was that the UFO phenomena is demonic in origin.

However, this has changed quite a bit in recent times with many high profile Vatican representatives coming out and declaring publically that UFO's and, indeed, extraterrestrial life, does not in any way contradict the Catholic faith. Of, course, these people do not Offically speak on behalf of the Vatican or Roman Catholic Church but they do have High Official Status within the Church and speak with authority in such matters as well as showing the change of attitudes within the church to modern times.

Reverend Jose Gabriel Funes, the Vatican's Chief Astronomer has stated that ruling out extraterrestrial life would be like ''putting limits on God's creative freedom.'' Further he states that ''In my opinion this possiblity (of life on other planets) exists.'' ''How can we exclude that life has developed elsewhere.'' Funes says that dialogue between faith and science could be improved if scientists could learn more about the Bible and the Christians with modern scientific progress. Many Christians are at odds with the concept of extraterrestrial life and their vehicles based on Biblical interpretations, however, with the discovery of so many planets outside our Solar System it now seems the likelihood of intelligent life in the cosmos is vastly more abundant than previously thought.

Reverend Jose Gabriels Funes' credentials are impressive with a Master's Degree in Astronomy, Doctorate from the University of Padua in Italy, Bachelors Degree in Philosophy and a Bachelors Degree in Theology. He is an ordained Jesuit priest, current Director of the Vatican's Observatory and Scientific Advisor to Pope Benedict.

Monsignor Corrado Balducci, a Roman Catholic Theologian of the Vatican Curia (Governing Body), a close friend of the Pope and a demonologist expert from the Vatican has openly declared publically that extraterrestrial intelligences are a real phenomenon. Regarding his close study of metaphysical subjects over many years he states that during the 50's especially there was a tendency for scientists and clergymen to deny at all costs any involvement with Parapsychological studies among the public. This was reflected in UFOlogy, which was one of those frontier subjects. He stated, ''As I collected material , I realised that this generalised denial stemmed from illogical fanaticism. There must be something there, even if you just use your common sense, and, using reason, the phenomena is indeniable! Strict criticism goes against common sense because it goes against the value of human testimonies. In recent years, accounts of UFOlogical events have greatly increased and yet there are still too many people who tend to pass everything off as nonsense. Of course, in many cases, natural phenomena for example, may be wrongly interpreted, but it's absolutely unthinkable to put everything into that category. Total Scepticism is completely unjustified.''

The general concensus among strict orthodox Christians is that the UFO phenomenon is closely related to the occult and is therefore Satanic in nature, tending to steer people away from their belief in Christian Doctrine. This consensus is an arbitrary standard and not an offical sanction by the church.

In closing, this is not an easy question to answer, especially since the Vatican refuses to give an official statement. One might deduce from this that they themselves do not really know the answer!

Usually, the general feeling is that UFOsare driven by Aliens, or other extra-terrestrial life forms. But a UFO doesn't have to come from space; anything which you can't identify and is flying is technicall a UFO

There may be aliens but it will take more than anecdotes and the assumption that every blob in the sky is a craft to prove it. There may even simply be natural phenomena we don't know about yet, confusing us. It'll take kick-the-tires evidence to prove it,so the buffs always say there is some but the Government stole it, or the dog ate it, or something like that. The US Government covers 6% of the Earth, why don't aliens ever crash elsewhere?

There is no evidence that aliens (in the sense of extraterrestrial life) exist. But absence of evidence is not evidence of absence, so there may very well be aliens. We just don't know of any yet.

No one holding a piece of a crashed alien ship has come forward with that bit of debris and made a statement. Nor has anyone produced an alien body or portions thereof. Photographs can be found across the internet, but what they prove can be debated.

The most tantalizing proof of the existence of aliens, if you choose to believe it, is the testimony of some of those who have been present in moments when the ships appeared. And, though there are any number of folks who want some notoriety, there are individuals whose credibility is not something that a person would question. They include former astronauts.

A number of NASA rocket jocks say they've experienced UFOs first hand, as have a number of military jet jockeys. Just looking at those and setting aside all the rest of the sightings, why would these military flight officers and astronauts lie to us about what they saw? There seem to be too many credible stories from fly boys with nothing to gain -- and everything to loose! -- by being wrong, being ridiculed and made to look foolish. And the latter two seemed to come regardless of anything else.

The jury is still out, and while they deliberate, we'll go about our business. Oh, and a few of us will, from time to time, join the ranks of those who have seen something unusual. Something with an odd shape that differentiates it from current airplanes. Or perhaps something exhibiting flight characteristics so unusual that no known aircraft could perform the maneuvers. As Yogi Berra said, "It ain't over 'til it's over." And it ain't over. There's one more thing. The truth is out there. And you know where that quote comes from.

There is hardly any evidence to prove it right or wrong yet. But we do have reports of people claiming to have seen U.F.Os. We also have pictures of things that people say are U.F.Os, but all of the pictures are of such poor quality they seem to be fake.

Well they have found life on mars. The universe is so big why should we be the only ones living in it? Aliens, in my opion, probably do exist. nobody really knows.

Actually, no they *haven't* found life on Mars or anywhere else. What they found was a meteor with specks of mineral shaped like microorganisms, which were never proven to be anything more than just that. They are considered to be too small to have contained the complex chemistry of life.

I know aliens look statistically likely, but it is a little early to believe in them yet. Someone has to be the first life in the Universe, and there is no reason to think it isn't us. No matter who was first, they would still look up at the Universe and say, "It's so big, there must be other life". And they would be wrong.
