I don't know if you are talking about the USB port in your computer or the USB plug itself. If the USB port in the computer the only fix is to replace your mother board. The work around for this is there's usually multiple USB ports on each motherboard so you can just use another port. If the plug itself... I'm sorry you are going to have to replace the device. I hope it's not a thumb drive with information you haven't backed up on it.

You can save any files to a USB drive that you would save on any other kind of drive. Providing theres room of course.

The only problem I can forsee with videos is that flash-based USB drives usually have pretty low data-transfer speeds compared to hard drives.... The data transfer speed may not be high enough to play high-resolution video directly from it.

Technically, you can't merge 2 USBs into one. But usually if you have a double usb extension it can handle only one instead of two. Really, it doesn't matter if it's one main usb or a double. It will still work.

You can't. A 1 GB Flash Drive will only have a capacity around 1 GB. Short of modifying the actual hardware, your 1 GB flash drive will always be just that; a 1 GB flash drive.

Unfortunately, formating a hard drive means wiping all the information on it. What you should do is save everything on the drive to another disk, or burn it to a CD, and then reformat the drive.
